OT: Need help - bad mattress purchase

I don't know what to do. About a year ago i had absolutely had it with our old mattress. Every morning my back and hips ached from sleeping on it. I went and got a new Vera Wang Serta one that I thought I loved. I spent a nice amount of change on it too.

A few months ago DH started complainig about back issues. When he lies down there is a huge dip. I purchased a memory foam topper but it didn't seem to really help.

Now, DH is in agony. He has been going to a chiropracter for a couple weeks. It gets so bad he can't walk. He swears it is the mattress.

I don't know what to do. I feel awful knowing how much i spent on it and how much a new set will cost but at the same time I can't let him be miserable. Truth is i don't really love it either. I called the company and they said they would replace it IF there is a 1 inch dip with no sheets or anything on it. I don't want the same mattress anyway.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

If the company won't let you exchange for something different, maybe you could accept the replacement and sell it as a new mattress set. Then, use the money you make selling it to help buy something else. Good luck!

I would suggest talking to the place you bought from. Try requesting an exchange for a different mattress.

We fell in love with the pillow top mattresses at the Grand Californian at Disneyland. So about two years ago we purchased a pillow top from Costco. We had it for about 6 months and hated the pilllow top but thought we were stuck with it. Then I read a consumer reports article about Costco getting high marks with their mattresses and the unlimited return policy.

We had owned the mattress for about two years but I called Costco and explained that there was nothing wrong with the mattress (not a warranty issue) but that we just didn't like the pillow top design. We also told the customer service that we wanted to order a replacement mattress (standard design, non pillow top) from Costco.com. Costco was great I just explained the situation and they took care of everything.

Our return was approved and Costco made arrangements for the delivery of the new mattress and pick up of the old mattress by the same trucking company on the same time.

It turns out that the conventional mattress was about $300 less then the pillow top so we got a refund of the difference.

I also highly recommend buying future mattresses from costco. They have a good selection online with free delivery and free pickup in the event of a return. We just bought a really nice natural latex matress from them. We didn't like the foundation and just returned that portion. The return was easy.

I was having hip and back pain and the new latex mattress with the best-quality IKEA frame has been really excellent.

We have the same issue! We bought a Vera Wang and it's terrible! I am so upset because we spent a ton of money on it too.

We bought it from our local furniture place that only carries good brands. They had just started carrying the VW when we happened to be buying.

We are outside of our 1-year anniversary of buying the mattress - because we just got busy and didn't think about calling earlier - and I am afraid we are out of luck.

I am interested if you get anywhere. I don't really want the same mattress again either - because it is so terrible - but I do think our dips may be 1" deep. Maybe I should call Serta about ours.

Did Serta offer to let you choose another Serta instead of the VW?

I totally should have gone with my first mattress choice, but we opted to go with the business we have used for years. Doesn't seem like it was the right choice in hindsight.

Most mattresses have a warranty. The company will come out and measure the dip. We had this problem with a mattress we bought from Sleepys. It was determined that the dip was not within the standards and they allowed us a credit towards a new mattress.

I wonder what Costco does with all those returned used mattresses they get? I would bet you anything they are "cleaned", repackaged and resold.

Wow, you don't even know what Costco does, I bet they don't resell them. I have never seen anyone that doesn't like Costco, you don't know what you are missing.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone jump to such conclusions before.

We had a similar situation. We spent $$$ on a nice mattress only to find out it was VERY uncomfotable after about 8 months of use. It took me about 4 more months to get the nerve to ddo something.

Call the store where you purchased the mattress. They will send someout to measure the dip. They gave us a credit at the store for a new set for the amount of the purchase price. We picked a Stearns & Foster set that was aprox $100 more and pd the difference. They delivered the new set and picked up the old one.

I can't even imagine why the name "Vera Wang" on a mattress implies that its good.

Vera Wang is a clothing designer that specializes in bridal, not home goods. Putting her name on a mattress to me means nothing more than "overpriced".

Well, her clothing that is sold at Kohl's is very poor quality.....not sure if there is any similarities with her mattresses?

Look on the bed tags and call in the warranty. I just did this.

Our mattress wasn't even 3 years old and was a Serta with the pillow top (so you can't flip the mattress). They sent a guy out to take a look at the mattress and to take some measurements. It had an 1 3/4 inch impression on DH's side and over a 2 inches on mine, it looked like a mountain range. The middle of the mattress was noticeably higher then either spot we slept in. They ended up replacing the mattress for a cost of $80 or $85 to us that covered the shipping and delivery of the new mattress.

Just want to chime in here and say my husband and I were waking up stiff and sore every morning on a stearns and foster pillow top mattress. We bit the bullet and bought a temper pedic and absolutely love it. I swear if we wanted to we could jump out of bed each morning. We have no aches or pains. It took a good month to decide if we liked it but now after 3 years we would never buy anything but.

I hope you are able to return the mattress you have and maybe give a temper pedic a try.

I also just replaced a Sealy with a huge dip in it. They voided my warranty because it had staining from the. Nice right? I have a Serta now & now after reading this I am scared.

I emailed Serta about my mattress this afternoon, and they wrote back and said I need to contact the store where I bought the mattress. So, after I finish my homework for my class tomorrow, I will give them a call. Hopefully they can help me out.

I don't know why Vera Wang would sell mattresses. We bought it because it was comfy in the showroom and our very reputable furniture store carries them (they only carry them). I assumed the Vera Wang part was more the fabric they used to cover the mattress, rather than the design to the mattress itself.

Regardless, it's a pretty nonfunctional mattress.

I did not buy the mattress thinking "oh Vera Wang i have to have it". I found out it was VW after i liked it. I was in the Serta store and thought it was just another Serta. So it wasn't like I assumed it would be good quality because it was her name!

I did call the store and they said since it is 8months I am past any exchanges. The warranty will only kick in if there is a 1 1/2 inch dip without any bedding. there is no visible dip.

It dips once DH lays down and he is not a huge guy! The thing is just not comfortable. I think we will just have to bite the bullet and replace it.

That's right I'd forgot about that part , it didn't apply to us. We bought the mattress at a local chain in MI. Then a year and a half later we moved to WA where the chain isn't located. So we had to actually go through Serta. Sorry about that.
