OT-Nashville restaurants, colleges and so on

Speaking of college... we're going to do a college-visit to Nashville this coming week, flying down Tuesday early/mid-afternoon & coming back Wednesday evening (thank goodness for the flights we've earned on Southwest). So, anybody have places to go/eat near Vanderbilt/Belmont (or just in the West End)? Oh, and any feedback on either Vanderbilt or Belmont?

Pancake Pantry is one you need to go too...there's also suppose to be a good coffee shop by Belmont. I'm not sure of any others.

Vandy grad here...so that gets my vote! Actually it is an excellent school, otherwise I would not recommend it. Don't know much about Belmont but it does seem to have a good music business program.

As for places to eat in that area...oh my. So many! I completely agree with Pancake Pantry. Get there EARLY on a weekday and you may not have to wait. The sweet potato pancakes are amazing!

Two of my favorite lunch places are on West End...one is Bread & Co., the other is Jason's Deli. I think Jason's Deli is a national chain so you may have eaten at one before.

It's worth your time and the drive to go to Loveless Cafe -- a few miles outside of Nashville. Check it out on the web, and you'll want to go.

Yeah, we're looking pretty seriously at Belmont and their music/music-business programs. Would like to have toured Vanderbilt but their tours only take place once a day at 10am so maybe we'll just walk around their campus to get their vibe.

Daughter went to Vandy Law..gorgeous school/grounds, wonderful (but costly) education, great campus vibe. Don't remember names, but so many good places to eat on West End!

Son-in-law worked for several years at Belmont...top notch music program, very conservative campus....also some great places to eat around Belmont.

Thanks for all the replies, about places to eat and Belmont(plus Vanderbilt).

On Tuesday we'll be getting in around 2:30 so we'll have more time that day to go a little further for a meal (a la Loveless Cafe). I think breakfast on Wednesday will have to be in the hotel (it's included) since our Belmont tour starts at 11am and goes until probably around 4. The way Belmont has their tours set up is cool. The prospective student has a lot of choices in what they want to see or do and their time at Belmont is customized. DD wanted to eat a meal at their cafeteria, tour the campus, get information on both the School of Music as well as the College of Entertainment and Music Business?...and *that* is exactly what they set up for her.

I know several people who went to Belmont that now work in the music biz in Nashville. The big labels seem to draw from Belmont for their interns moreso than Vandy but both are excellent schools and just by being in Nashville she is sure to meet plenty of people and make connections in the industry.

My favorite locals only place to go for amazing food is the Pie Wagon.
