Can anyone give me any suggestions. She's not complaining that it hurts, she does itch it, but when I ask her if it hurts she says no. She's 4. I know she has alot of watch as the pediatrician a month or so ago mentioned it, so we have been trying to remove it with peroxide or Dembrox drops. The peroxide is removing much more wax, but on occasion her ear just smells.....

Any suggestions?

She could have an ear infection. I remember from childhood that it doesn't always hurt if you've gotten a bunch of them. I would call your pedi.

Sorry that I don't have a suggestion, but was wondering how you administer the peroxide? Do you put drops in her ears, the same was as the Debrox drops? :confused3

My daughter always tells me that her ears need to "pop". That is when I know there is excessive wax build up. I clean them after every bath and as much as possible, but she still builds up a lot of wax. I think some kids are just prone to it. I never had that issue with my son.

Thanks

An ear that smells usually means it's infected.

herc.

When I use peroxide, I pour 1/2 a capful into my boys ears and let it sit for a few minutes. After I do this to both ears, I then use a Q-tip to clean them out. We do this weekly.

According to my ped, be careful when putting peroxide in the ear. (I'm not a dr or nurse - just passing along information). My DD had an ear infection last year - her ears didn't even hurt -just had a very high temp. I took her to the dr and her eardrum was about to burst. It looked just awful; kind of bubbly looking. The dr said if peroxide or anything else would touch it, it would irritate it to the point of completely bursting. So, just be careful.

BTW: I also use Debrox on DS. I used peroxide before the ped told me not to.

Ear odor is not normal and should be diagnosed by a doctor. I think that you should contact your pediatrician. There are a number of possible reasons for the smell. You really need the advise of a medical professional on this one.

my ears have always been smelly:confused3

I agree to get it checked by the ped to make sure it's not infected but the poor kid may just have smelly ears.

it is probably an infection. If it isn't hurting it may have burst - then there is no pressure to hurt.

my daughter had a smelly itchy ear and it turned out to be a fungal infection. Please see your doctor because it took a really long time to get rid of the infection.

I had this problem last year when my eardrum ruptured during a plane ride. The whole area was so infected my doctor couldn't even see inside my ear... and it STUNK!

He applied ear drops that got rid of it in a matter of days.

About 8 years ago, my friends daughter had a smelly ear. They took her to the doctor, and he cleaned out some wax. Ear still smelled. Went to an ear nose and throat guy. He pulled a DEAD BEE out of her ear! Maybe you child has something stuck in there too! Maybe the doc needs to take a deeper look see!

O.K.... this sound familar... years ago when my old DD who is now 21 was 3 I noticed a foul smelling odor coming from her 1 nostril, I took her to the doctor and he checked her out..well, she stuck a piece of sponge up her nose and never told me!!!! The doctor was laughing, because after he looked up her nose he asked her if she put anything in her nose and she just looked at him so inocent and no...he pulled out a piece of sponge that looked pretty nasty! Maybe your daugher put something in her ear??? I would definetly go to the doctor...Kids do the strangest things!

A lot of medical insurance companies have Nurselines you can call, too. I have found them to be helpful.

Is Debrox an OTC medicine? My 3 year old has a horrible wax build up issue that needs to get removed every 6 weeks or so by and ENT doctor. He has real thick wax so does that medicine help? Thanks so much and I hope your daughters ear is ok!
