Hi Molly, I didn't want my response to get lost in the Oregon thread so I thought I'd hail you directly!
My DH says that the kosher products they make are blessed by a Rabbi during the production process - and that is about it. No real difference from the other products. He says it is rather cool, about once a month they have a Rabbi who comes and says a prayer over their kosher cheese, then pushes the button and starts the vat. I am not sure about geletin but I am figuring it is the same process - that, and of course it would contain no pork by-products.......
Hope this answers your question?? :upsidedow

Thanks!

I assume it means it's still animal-based, but they've gotten past the *no meat and milk* thing b/c the gelatin is so refined. (that isn't something I'm just assuming from this, but based on much discussion of marshmallows and gelatin and what kosher means with ingredients like gelatin.)

Was hoping for carageenan! Alas, until they get non-animal*-based thickening agents, I won't be eating their yogurt. :(

*am aware yogurt is from animals, but there's a difference between milking and making gelatin for the animal involved:rolleyes1

OT post done! Sorry I didn't go back to the OR thread in case you put it there...

In case you don't know since I have no idea what the previous discussion was but there are non-gelatin yogurts on the market they are just hard t find sometimes.

Sadly there are plenty of veggy and vegan gelling agents it just seems like gelatin must be cheaper or just the way they think they have to do things

We currently eat Safeway's O Organics brand.

But I *like* Tillamook, even though it's conventional vs organic, and I appreciate them for knowing about non animal rennet for all but one of their cheeses (not the aged sharp white cheddar, which, of course, is my absolute favorite type of cheese EVER), and stating "non animal rennet" on the label. Since they know about that, I was hoping against hope! But alas, crushed. :)

I lurve the cherry O Organics yogurt, yummo. Can't wait for them to start making them in bigger sizes!

Molly, I'll do a little more in depth snooping and see if I can get you any better answers. The thing is that the yogurt is not made here, that like many of the other Tillamook products is made elsewhere. All our factory makes is cheese and ice cream.

Aha!

Ooh while you're at it, tell them to stop it with the corn syrup in the ice cream!!!! We can't eat THAT anymore, either, and therefore buy different, even more costly, brands that don't use it. I miss the mudslide flavor....:sad1:

Obviously I am under the impression that your husband is the CEO of Tillamook brands...wait, IS HE? :goodvibes

Not quite....he is a cheese maker, LOL! But I'll make sure to have him forward all your requests.... The higher-ups LOVE to listen to the lowly employees and their "opinions"- :rotfl:
