My DB and SIL got the call on Friday. MAW wants to send them this Thursday! Please say a prayer that little Luke stays healthy enough to make the trip.

That is so wonderful. What is Luke's condition. I will say a prayer for him this am that he has the strength and health to have a wonderful time.

16 years ago my ds (then 3) had Ewings sarcoma ( a childhood form of bone cancer). Some friends sent his name to MAW and they offered to send him to WDW. We actually had already paid for a trip for when he finished his chemo (Poly Gold Plan) so we really didn't need the trip, however they were nice about getting us airline tickets. Even though we didn't take them up on the trip, I always appreciated the work they do for the children. By the way if it's any hope my son is now 19, a sophmore in college, and "cured". Although he had to lose his right leg to acheive the cure he has done very well, including playing football for his high school team!

Prayers that your nephew stays healthy enough to make the trip.

Thank you for your good wishes.

Luke has a rare metabolic disorder called "mitochondrial disease". It is genetic and affects every cell in his body. It attacks various organ systems and it is a progressive disease. Luke's primary symptoms were manifest in his gut but lately, there have been some neurological problems that indicate that the disease has spread to his nervous system as well.

He's only 2½.

There is no cure.

My DB and SIL just want to be able to create a family memory before he passes on. They have not been able to travel since Luke was born because of his tremendous medical needs. None of them have been to WDW before. MAW will not only send DB, SIL, Luke and his brother and sister, but they are also sending his nurse along.

MAW is handling everything. They're even providing some spending money for the kids to purchase souvenirs. My family is absolutely floored by the generosity of this organization. Those of us with healthy children have no idea how much this kind of a trip means to a family with a seriously ill child.

Please keep a positive thought for them as they get ready to go. Right now the biggest challenge is keeping Luke well enough to travel. The second biggest challenge is to keep it a secret from the older children until it's time to leave.

I pray Luke is healthy enough to travel. I can not imagine how devistating it is to have a child so ill, and to know you will lose him. I am certain, even if he can't make the trip that his family is making lasting family memories every day::yes::

MAW foundation is unbelievable in what they do for children and their families! :bounce:

Best wishes to Luke and your family!

I too pray that he stays healthy enough to make the trip. Having a 2.5 year old myself I couldn't imagine what his parents are going through.

Lots of prayers and pixie dust. I hope they have the most magical trip possible. It's wonderful that there are organizations out there that can do this for families!!

::yes::  That is great that Luke will be able to have such a great experience in his short life. I'm sure the MAGIC in Disney will help him and his family put their troubles and hurt aside for even just a little while. It will surely be a trip they will all remember forever!! Are you guys going to have a little "welcoming party" for them when they get back? I'm sure he will be just fine for the big trip, he's probably saving all his energy as we speak!!

I get tears in my eyes just thinking about how hard that must be. I will pray that he can go, and that he is well enough to make some good memories with his family. I am a huge fan of MAW, they really make a differance in the quality of these kids and families lives. They are one of the organizations I hope to be able to give time to as my kids get older.

Just a thought , when I have to give teacher gifts ( even dance teacher and sport coaches) a gift I make a donation to MAW with thoughts of them. We give the person a card that says this. This way they don't get contacted if they don't want to. We have had teachers cry and say it is the best gift they have ever gotten

We went on a wish trip last fall and it was wonderful. Will they be staying at Give Kids the World Village? If so they will love the trip even more. You feel that you don't even have to leave the village because there are so many things to do there. Best of luck to them and I hope that they have a wonderful trip. Keep us posted.

I hope your nephew stays healthy for his trip. I will be saying a prayer for them!

My best friends sister was taken to WDW by MAW. She was "Cinderella" for a day. It was so precious. They made her so happy. They are such a wonderful foundation!

Sending lots of prayers Luke's way. What a perfect place for making family memories. Keep us posted & let us know how Luke is doing.

Oh my goodness, that is so very sad :(

I will be praying sooooo hard that little Luke is well enough to make the trip. He certainly deserves it. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated on how he is doing.

Lots of love and prayers his way...

I hope Luke is well enough to go on his trip. It is so sad to me to see a little one so sick like that, or hear of it. My SIL is a nurse at Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH, and she's constantly reminding me to be thankful for my two healthy boys, and believe me I am.

Please let us know if he enjoys his trip, although I'm sure he will. Prayers for him and his family.

Make a Wish Foundation is an amazing charity.

Our good friends daughter (age 14) was diagnosed with germ cell cancer last year. Her wish was to meet Adam Sandler. MAW cannot guarantee celebrities so she had to have a second wish as well, just in case, so she said she wanted to go on vacation with her family. MAW gave her less than a weeks notice and flew the whole family to Hawaii to meet Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore while they filmed "50 First Dates". Both her wishes came true!
My friends said that MAW was amazing from the time they were picked up in a limo to the moment they returned.
It has opened my eyes to this charity and the way it touches the lives of so many people.
Please concider giving to Make a Wish Foundation.
They make dreams come true for very deserving sick kids.

My friends daughter died this past December but the pictures of their family in Hawaii while MAW fulfilled her dreams are priceless.

I know the trip to Disney will be the trip of dreams for the family.

I wish them well.
