Hello all,

I am a music teacher at a primary school in central CT. During the next two weeks I am piloting the "Kindness Project", a program I devised to help our students learn about and spread kindness. Our goal is to achieve over 2000 acts of kindness in one week!

One of my ideas when I first started this project was to involve the online Disney community. Since I've been active here on the Dis and elsewhere online, I have found that Disney fans are some of the kindest and most giving of people around. I am looking for you all to step up and inspire my students by writing about your own acts of kindness, whether it be something you did or received. I will be posting all online submissions to the website at the school for all to see.

So how can you help?

1. Please visit my Kindness Project website (here)and leave a comment on what you've done recently to spread kindness. If you need some ideas on how to be kind, I have listed over 100 ways to get you started.

2. Spread the word and let others know about our project. That in itself would be an act of kindness!

Many sincere thanks,
Kathy Adams

i just had to share the biggest act of kindness i've known - but it's a bit much for your students so i'm posting here instead. :) long story short:

our benefits admin in h/r was on dialysis and needed a new kidney. she was on a wait list but it wasn't going well. a coworker - who just began and met this woman 7 months before - turned out to be a match and donoted her kidney! they are both doing well. the donor is back at work and the recipient is expected back in the not too distant future.

i personally don't know too many people who would willingly give up a kidney for someone who wasn't a near and dear person in their lives - never mind a coworker that they have known for less than a year! i think that is a pretty major act of kindness! i get chills whenever i think of these two women!

If you post on my website (see first post) I will personally donate $1 to Make-A-Wish. I'm hoping to see 100 posts by Friday, April 3rd at midnight.

The kids at my school are aiming for 2000 acts of kindness by the end of the week. Help us reach our goal and make some magic for someone today!

The Kindness Project was a success!

We had 1,700 acts of kindness submitted at school and on the website.

The students colored 650 drawings to send to the Color A Smile organization.

And...

We raised $800 to donate to Make-A-Wish!

Thanks to all who participated. I'm already planning my next Project... and if you hear of any charitable causes that might work for an elementary school, please let me know! And feel free to keep posting acts of kindness on my website, kindnessproject09.blogspot.com.

Last Tuesday 4/9, I was leaving my house with my ds9 and his friend. We were dropping his friend off and going to pick up my ds7 from a playdate. We noticed a guy chasing a poodle in front of our house. He yelled to me "We almost hit your dog"....It wasn't my dog...He drove off and the dog ran the other direction. I asked my son to go inside and get a dog cookie. We called the dog back and eventually got him to take the cookie. I then grabbed him and put him in our garage. We have a lab so I didn't want them to mingle when we weren't home. The poor dog was shaking!

After dropping off the friend and picking up my son, we got home and made "Found Poodle...please knock on door" signs and put them on the tree in front of our house. The little guy was so sweet and well groomed I knew someone would claim him soon. I called our local town shelter. They took our info and said if anyone called looking for a dog with that description they would put them in touch with us.

My kids named him "poody" and had a ball with him. Night time came and we went to bed. Just as I was about to fall asleep...ding dong...A father, teenage daughter and son were at the door....they had been looking all day for their lost dog and finally came down my block and saw the sign!!! They were thrilled and I think "poody" was just as happy!

I was so glad they found their dog. They said their neighbor just installed a new fence and left a small gap that wasn't there before. The lil' dog found it!
I just couldn't let the lil' dog stay out on the street to possibly get hit by a car.
