OT - let the chatting begin....... CHAT thread

Hope everyone is well today?

I am today very thankful that i don't work on a Monday, i am soooo tired!

Our lovely little Nutmeg (cat), gave birth to 5 gorgeous kittens yesterday (thanks to a nosey Tabby cat who came in my kitchen window and violated my lovely little cat! ).
So as DH went up to bed last night i settled on the sofa to be there for her and her babies should be need me....i had no idea how vocal newborn kittens are!! Nutmeg seemed a little spooked and cried if i left her so i spent most of the night back and forth to her box reassuring her that i was still there.

Our house will now be a mad house for the next 12 or so weeks, 5 kittens, a cat, a 3 year old ball of energy and 5 year old with impeding attitude........roll on our DLP trip in 5 months....i need a break!!

How was everyone's weekend??

Congrats on the kittens I had a quiet weekend & didn't do much. Which suits me as I start my 1st of 4 night shifts tomorrow (I hate nights) glad England got knocked out of Euro 2012 which means shouldn't have any extra drunks to deal with now

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your kittens!! Hope we get to see some photos!!

I did the Race For Life yesterday so I am a bit achey today, and I know tomorrow will be worse!

I also baked 48 cupcakes as an incentive for my work colleagues to sponsor me

So happy that the sun is shining today, I was beginning to forget what blue sky looked like!!

I'm waiting for the engineer to come & fix the display on my fridge freezer, he said between 1pm-4pm so i'm chilling watching Wimbledon.

Also just sorting out a few bits for when I go to work at the Olympics in a couple of weeks time

Its my dad's 60th in September and i'm trying to come up with some ideas of what to get him. As some of you know he took us all on a trip to DLP earlier this month but it went wrong in that my mum had to stay home due to the dog having a fit at the kennels (he is fine now) and my sister & her family spoilt it by making it obvious they didn't really want to be there. Plus how he was treated on Father's day by her. He & I enjoyed it but it sort of tainted the trip.

I don't really have a budget as he is a dad who deserves something special after all he has done for us as a family & especially how he has helped my sister & I over the years.

He wants to do an afternoon tea locally to us which apparently my sister is going to sort (not holding my breath).

I was thinking of doing a photo book of him over the years but I don't think I will have much time to get the photos together due to me working shifts & being up at the Olympics for 2 and a half weeks. Plus all the photos are at my parents house so he would guess what was happening.

I won't do a party as he doesn't like them.

Ideas?

Congratulations on your new arrivals. I hope you realise we will want photos when they have their eyes open and are little balls of fluff. Just a thought, hope you have homes lined up or that is going to be one big cattery bill in five months time when you are in DLP! Now get some rest

My parents are taking one or two, and my cousin another, if our boys had their way we would keep them all....i don't think i could cope with so many long term!
We will be in no rush to re-home them though so we can be sure they are going to good homes

The cakes are a fab idea for encouraging people to part with cash....catch them on a sugar high

It is nice to have some brighter weather after how yuck it has been down here lately, lovely and bright but not too hot! I even got some washing out to dry

I did think of doing that October half term as my mum works in a school but i'm going in November through my work so it would be too close together. The dog is fine its just the kennels he was at, my parents are going to try with someone who looks after your dog in their home.

Have thought about going somewhere though.

Is there anything he's always wanted to do/see but never gotten round to it?

He had always wanted to go on Eurostar which he did earlier this year as I got them tickets for Christmas.

Awww, lovely kittens

Nikki, I think the photo book is a great idea if you can manage to steal some photos from your mum and dad's place. I did this for Mark's 18th and I was surprised by how much he liked it. Everyone commented on it and it was really easy and quick to do.

I don't have a scanner, I simply photographed from the original pictures, uploaded them to photobox and then created the book. I put a photo taken on each birthday and then wrote some memories of what kind of things he liked doing at each age.

Otherwise, some kind of experience - hot air balloon, car racing? Or could your budget push to an overnight stay somewhere for your mum and dad, maybe with theatre tickets, and you could take care of the dog!!

Mark's home from his holiday this morning, and had a great time. No dramas, and he's in one piece, which is all I could ask for. I thought he'd be straight into bed, but he's off to school for a guitar playing day. Abbey was texting me all day, it was her Disney day yesterday and she had a ball. Says she got a fab spot for Dreams and almost cried at the Tangled bit - that's my girl

I'm still off work with neck bother....the doctor called it something that begins with a 't' but I can't read the writing

helllloooo everyone, I know I don't often post on this thread but I've had an exciting couple of days - managed to get paralympics judo finals and medal ceremony tickets for our end of August London trip yesterday evening, and this morning I went to watch the olympic torch relay as it passed near to my house .

We've never stayed in London before, in fact my DD has never even passed through London before, so it'll be a busy busy 2 days in the Capital!

The torch relay passes through my area on the 6th of July so i will be heading off into town to see it go past. I seem to be the only one in my family who thinks it's a big deal and that you SHOULD (i you can of course) go and see it.

I very nearly booked to go to Disney in January today, i have been umming and arring for days now but i just have a real niggly feeling that i can't explain that i should wait

My AP has run out but the difference between 1 person in the room and 2 is about the same as a fantasy pass so i might as well do it for one and buy another AP on arrival.(when i eventually do book that is)

Great news Elaine! The torch went past us a couple of weeks ago. We live just round the corner from where it was so Lewis and I got up early to go and see it. I'm with you, thought I should make the effort, but I was really surprised to see how busy it was. It was a great atmosphere and I'm so glad we went

You'll enjoy London. We're off there two in a few weeks and can't wait

That's the kids all finished up school this week, for 6 or 7 weeks of 'mum, i'm bored' to look forward to Hope the weather improves for them soon.

How exciting getting Olympics tickets! I kinda wish we'd at least tried to get some! The Torch passed by our front door last week, it was amazing, the whole street were out in the rain, houses were decorated and Rosebug had her "Jubilee" dress on (which is now her Olympic dress! ) The police were on their bikes etc. waving to the kids, and there was a parade of sponsorship trucks etc. It was a wonderful community experience!

Unlike our community experience last night with the flooding! It hit our county quite bad, we very nearly had a flooded kitchen and 2 streets away our town centre was flooded, and even had ducks swimming around. A little way up the road from us cars were submerged! :-( We are very lucky that our house is on a bank, so everything just floats past us, but our backyard is a slight slope, so the water was flooding down towards the house, and the drain got blocked, luckily DH realised in time and had to lie down in 4 inches of water to unblock it just as it was starting to come into the kitchen! Feel so sorry for the hundreds of people who took hours to get home last night, who had to abandon their cars (was bizarre driving to work this morning with all the cars abandoned on the sides of the roads. I was waiting for the zombies!) and who had terrible flooding. And I am so glad I left work an hour earlier than usual, otherwise I wouldn't have got home because the Tyne Tunnel was flooded, and that was my route home! It was quite a spectacular storm, I love thunder and lightening, such a shame it was so devastating!!!

Elaine, I don't have a spreadsheet for the holidays, but I do have a plan for London I plan that almost as much as our Disney holidays. Abbey suggested that as we're in London, we should 'pop over to DLP' as we're so near the Eurostar. I told her not to be so silly, and was then on here in a flash checking prices. But it won't be happening, too much to see and do in London, including Harry Potter studios, which is our main reason for going 23 days to go, I should really have a ticker for it on here, already got one on my phone
