I did rib him a bit earlier - checking that he had his passport, phrasebook, foreign currency and his health insurance.

OK maybe just a phrase book then:lmao:

This reminds me of when I was first going for university interviews. We lived in Kent, so a bit of a palaver to get anywhere by train as you Kent-ites know! Can't remember which one I was going to, York or Warwick I think, but as I was getting off for a change of train, my shoe fell off and went down onto the track. You can imagine this was not ideal on my own for the first time, somewhere I'd never been before, on my way to an interview! Eventually someone came along and fished it out for me.

That reminds me of when I went to DLRP a few years ago. Four of us went from the same house and all travelled by train to London first, yet we ended up taking 3 different routes.

1) Step dad went up a little earlier so got an earlier train.

2) Mum and brother took a second train. I was meant to be getting that one as well but as I was helping to get everything on the train, my wallet slipped out my pocket and onto the railway line, so I had to miss the train so I could get my wallet back.

3) With my wallet safely back in my pocket, I got the next train. We all met back up in London and got to DLRP with no problems in the end, but it still makes me laugh when I think about how we got to London :rotfl:

Well done Bob, that's great !! :thumbsup2 I got a 2:1 overall as well for my degree and it was/is a great feeling !! (I was expecting a 2:2.. or even lower to be honest lol).

I just want out! As long as I pass I don't care! I just want to leave so I can get a job and buy a house! I've seen a few possible places I'd love to go and view but I can't until I get a job!

I somehow managed to secure a first - no idea how as I missed loads of time from the pneumonia and also had other problems in my final year as well... I personally think the extentuating circumstances helped quite a lot as I had mixed grades (A,B,C) in my first two years, where as I collected straight A's in my final year where I had two extenuating circumstance forms asking to consider my situation when marking my work.

I'm looking forward to finishing my Master's now - knowing I only need a high C grade on my last module to secure a pass with distinction makes me all the more determined to get it... I'd love an A on this last module as I've had A's for all my modules overall so far, but being the project / dissertation I'm not holding my hopes out too much. I'll just be pleased to achieve this on my own without having to wonder if I've only achieved it because of the extenuating circumstances forms.

Then again, being online means that my course is completely coursework driven. The only "exam" I've had was an online multiple choice test and of course that was open book as they can't exactly monitor you in your home to make sure you've not got any books there :rotfl:

LOL - that sounds like an ideal solution. My son has had one offer from a good Uni about 7 miles away and another from Dundee - a 9 hour train journey away! You can guess which one I'm crossing my fingers for. Although in fairness - judging by the amount of work he is doing for his finals, he will not be going anywhere in October, except to the JobCentre. :sad2:

That's just the impression boys like to give us ;)
I had a mum in work last week, who said "what did jamie think of his welsh exam?" - "What Welsh exam ?", "You don't get letters either then?", "No I had to nag to get a copy of the work experience one", "What work experience one ?"
Huge sigh of relief from me, because she's a teacher and it's reassuring to know she's in the same boat.

and this is the reason why despite my boss offering to pay for my flights and hotel I'm dithering about going to Glasgow in June for the British Dental Association's Conference. If I get lost I'll be stuffed, I won't be able to understand any directions I get. No offence to any Scots it's a beautiful accent but I just can't understand you. :flower3:

:rotfl: You poor thing

You'll regret that swap once you start working for real :rotfl:

I won't. I've spent nearly every day of this degree in a terrible state of mind because I hate it so much... I was forced into going to uni and I never would have done if it hadn't been for that. There's too much pressure on people to go to uni today..... :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: I wish I'd never gone- I've hated it from day one....

I bought my husband the box set of Still Game for Christmas and he's been watching it with subtitles on to make sure he can understand it.

I have to admit though, we have Scottish customers who I've had conference calls with and sometimes it's been a little tricky to understand some words.

Then again, I struggle with northern accents occasionally as well, though I suspect the reverse is probably true as well.

I work it an area that is full of Scottish people (there is a Glasgow Rangers supporters club down the road!) and my teaching assistant is Scottish. I can understand her and the kids fine, but she does have to translate sometimes at parents evening for me. The funniest thing one year was one of the teachers couldn't understand what the parent was saying but she just kept saying yes. Then he kept saying, go on then. Aparently she had just told him she was fluent in Brisith sign language which he also is and he ws wanting her to demonstrate!!

Yes we were talking to DS2 on the phone yesterday and commenting on how he seems to have developed a southern accent since moving to Cambridge
