How many people put money down when leasing a car (above what it cost for delivery and first months)

Really frustrated by ads in newspapers say lease for only $299/month but then you read the small print and it says with $5000 down plus plus plus

We put down the trade in value ($4500) on our lease. It help put down the monthly payments alot but we do have a high km lease which puts up the monthy payments but lowers the buyout. We have never leased a car before but we thought we would try it since the actual cost were the same as financing (both at 0%). Also the thought of getting a new vehicle in three years work well with our plans.

Car manufacturers want x amount of dollars for the term of the lease.. so for example if during the lease term the car is going to "cost" $10,000 over say 4 years, whether you put down $1 and have $208/month payments or $9000 down and $21/month payments, you'll still be paying the same amount for the term of the lease. (trying to round and oversimplify)..

One of my nice car salesman friends (who is really excellent) tried to discourage downpayments because all you're doing is paying up front.

Totally agree with this point. I really wish that they would show real world pricing, not dream world pricing.

We never do we are paying 431 tax in for our 05 Montana ext pretty much fully loaded and all we did was pay our first month and no security or delivery.

We didn't for either of our Camry's - the '03 we just traded or the '07 dh just got last month - why pay upfront like a PP said!

We leased at 0% so therefore , we kept the downpayment in our account.

zero is zero right!!!

We never put money down on our leased car. We had a terrible accident and had to get a new car this month and we leased another one from the same dealer as before.( A year before our lease was up) We didnt put anything down, it raised our payment a month by $3 because of that. No big deal there. We were given a credit because this was a new lease with the same dealer ( Ford) which we used for our first months payment. Which was great since Im on Mat. leave and we didnt plan or budget a new car this year.. Disneyworld yes. Car no..
Also the fact that you get a new car with a new warranty every 3-4 years makes me like that a whole bunch more.

Now if Disney would come up with a no money Down vacation....
