OT: Just got a Droid phone

Had it for a week and i am liking it more and more . takes a little gettin used to but is a cure for i-phone envy. Even does some things better. Multitasking is great, even if you don't think you need it... believe me , you'll get used to it. Google has a decent podcast app. called "listen". Google also has a great astronomy app called "sky map". Pandora works great! My main dissapontment is the lack of FLASH video playback. The camera is so-so but the phone feels sturdy and fairly ergonomic

I got my Droid last Friday and am really, really liking it. I am a bit biased because I have been developing applications for the platform for about a year now and only have the G1 to compare it too.

I got the screen protectors (on the advice of an iPhone owner). Verizon sells them in a pack of 3 for something like (gulp) $12. I heard this is comparable to the ones apple sells for the iPhone.

I also got a "body glove" case and like the feel of the phone with the case on. The case also does a nice job of securing the edges of the screen protectors.

The only problem with the case is that it is hard to take off, and you can not fit the phone (with the case on) in the car mount.

I am so interested in the Droid. I have a Blackberry Curve and hate it. (plus the rollerball is giving me cramps in my thumb!) iPhone would be great but AT&T is so lousy in NYC. I want to stick with Verizon.

When we were at Best Buy this weekend my DH bought one for $20 and it was such a pain to put on and had so many bubbles under it that he peeled it off and trashed it. And the Best Buy lady was telling us that they didn't have any cases for the Droid yet. She made it sound as it nobody had any because they hadn't been developed yet.

I can't wait till I can upgrade. This will be my next phone!!!

I have the Storm now and I can't stand it!!! I can't upgrade it because it tells me I don't have enough memory. How can that be I don't have much on the darn thing.

Hmmm, I know my husband is available for an upgrade maybe I could get it on his and then transfer it to mine. I know they did this for my son last year.

Well good news I am now the proud owner of the Droid. I went to Verizon today and told them how much I hate the storm! I asked if I could use my dh's upgrade and they said it would be no problem.

So far I love it! There is definitely a lot to figure out on it. I already downloaded a few free Apps and it was quick and easy. I am typing this post with it right now.

I will keep you updated the more I learn new stuff on here.

screen protectors and cases are at the Verizon store.. a friend said that I would need both with the phone as protection..I can understand that as the LG I have has nicks and dings and scratches all over it..

I am thinking that Santa can spring for the phone but an extra $30 prer month is a hurdle for me..

Have any of you lucky Droid owners tried to get the new Mobile Magic app? I get the message it isn't available for my LG Dare. I am disappointed to say the least.

Wow, I went in last weekend and they wouldn't let me upgrade, they are making me wait 2 more weeks until the 29th. Pretty stupid move on their part, wouldn't they WANT people to buy the phone/upgrade their plan when they are in the store and willing to do it then and there instead of possibly walking away???

I think they should offer early upgrades, just makes more sense to me.

What I would do is call up Verizon and ask for an early upgrade. I don't know how Verizon does things, but I have some experience in the industry. Customer support may be able to help you where store reps/managers can't, and every agent/rep has a certain amount of discretion. They may offer early upgrades for a fee, but if you're a valuable customer (tenure, payment history, size of your bill), tell them you want them to waive the fee. If you don't get anywhere, ask to speak to a supervisor; they have more authority to make exceptions than front-line agents.
