OT: jon and Kate + 8 new house?

Jealous? NO! Love MY smaller family and wouldn't want theirs even with the larger house, vacations, and income!

On the boards? Because I am a SAHM who would rather be on the computer than clean toilets and do laundry while the kids are at school.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I'm with you! :thumbsup2
I too am a SAHM and while I spend much of my day on laundry and stuff, it's fun to chat with others (be it to agree, hear a different side or what have you.) But I truly don't see a reason to be jealous of them, then again others would disagree.

Good thing they have so much money... they're going to need it to pay for the thousands of dollars worth of therapy Maddie is going to require. That is one messed up child.

I'm no doctor, but I would say that Maddie without a doubt has oppositional defiant personality disorder. I've never witnessed a child behave that way, and I've seen plenty of out of control children. She takes the cake.

....and Joel. Poor guy never seems to get much attention.

Whenever our kids say they need help...we tell them we just can't afford it.:lmao:

What about the lil Kates??? Like they won't need some OCD therapy???

Reality TV has nothing to offer the "average American family." The average American family is a bore. Most of us live that life everyday - we don't need to watch someone else do exactly what we do. Which is why the Gosselins were never "average" to begin with. They have eight kids - two sets of multiples. They have their own television show. No one with their own television show is "average." Which is why shows like this draw a crowd - the viewers are interested in non-"average" lives.

And if none of you are (admittedly) jealous of the Gosselins, then why are you spending your precious time complaining about the way they choose to live their lives?

Ummm, for the SAME reason YOU are reading this thread AND posting to it!?
It's a message board. There really is no RIGHT or WRONG. t's just FUN to hear other opinions on topics we ENJOY discussing:)

I thought the same thing but after reading an article about it online I do not think that is going to happen. The mother has kept her idenity a secret and they have not released any pics of the babies. That could all change but I am thinking that this family does not want all the publicity.

Wow were we wrong...

Turns out the family has 14 kids under the age of 7, and a single mom no less. Now I really do smell a reality show...

Over the past several years I have developed a strange addiction to reality TV. The bigger the train wreck the better. Love the Kardashian's, Celebrity Rehab, Real Housewives and my current favorite, Sober House. There is NO WAY, NO HOW I am jealous of Steven Adler or any of the other stars of these shows. I watch them in amazement. The same with Jon and Kate. I am in no way jealous of them with their 8 kids. I have 3 of my own thank-you. I just don't get the whole "Your just jealous" comeback. No, just shaking my head in amazement wondering when Dr Drew will make an appearance on Jon and Kate! There is a show I would really love to watch!

Dr Drew and the Nanny to double team!!! Once can show up on the front door and the other at the back :lmao: . Just keep "Dr" Phil away from them!!!:rotfl2: ...then again Kate would be the one person to stand up to HIS thoughts for what is best for their family...and demand that he doesn't get paid for that episode because her family is on the show!!!:lmao: :lmao:

Sorry, but where is the Dr here??? Isn't there a hypocratic oath taken to do no harm? JMO, but I can see several examples of harm being done!

Is there an active dad in the picture for the 8 babies?

Did anyone see The View Thursday? From what I caught Sheri had used fertility treatments to have her baby. She said that insurances are not covering IVF where the DR can implant a safer number of embreyos, but will often cover drugs that increase egg production that can "naturally" lead to MULTIPLES.

Really? I'd say she is naughty, and definitely not enjoying the filming experience, but I don't think I'd throw the ODD label her way. She's mouthy, but if she were ODD she'd be openly defiant to John and Kate and purposefully disobeying them (shoes in the house, violent towards the little ones (more than the smack here and there, etc). I just think she's got a TON of stressors in her life right now........and I feel for her.

I agree. Many of you say you worry about how the show will affect the children when they get teased, and then others make personal comments about a young child that could cause her to be labeled and analyzed as having a behavior disorder. Personally I think they film a lot of hours and primarily show the worse moments, both with Kate and the kids, for entertainment value. I think Mady is a normal kid, she has her moments and those are the ones they choose to show. I don't understand the labeling, I think it is wrong to do that. Jon and Kate are making their decisions about continuing the show and for all we know they are banking the earnings until they can afford to stop the show and spend their time with the kids. I don't agree w/ a lot of what they do, but the kids seem to be flourishing so the judgement shown by so many is a little much. :wave2: Just my two cents.

I agree. She looks like she is not a happy little child in her situation. The sad part if this isn't taken care of it could turn into something serious that could effect relationships wioth others outside the family and school. I know my DS is NOT happy that where we are living and the longer we HAVE TO put off moving the worse the behavior gets. Punishments don't work becaue is it completely internal...we try to talk about his feeling and let him know we realize that he's not happy (neither are we) and try to show him coping hints that we as adults do without second thoughts.

I totaly agree, the doctor was wrong. And from what I read the dad was a donor.
I don't watch the View, so I don't know anytihng about that, but I have heard that it is very expensive.

I never said anything was wrong with any of the kids, but I do worry about them. We all have our bad moments with our kids, but do we really want them to be on TV for all to see? That's my concern.

Been lurking here:coffee: and had a couple of random thoughts.

Does anyone know how many hours in a day/week filming is done? I think if we compared that to the number of minutes the show is edited down to, we may get a better perspective. I don't think I'm at all like Kate but I'm pretty sure you could capture 20 minutes a week of me being "harsh" and even a little OCD. You could certainly get 2-3 minutes of kids (seriously) misbehaving. The show doesn't illustrate the "rest" of it very well. It's not Supernanny.

The producers edit the show for "action", sitting reading to your kids isn't usually action (of course I've had moments). I wonder, given our society, if everyone involves feels the "mean" Kate will get better ratings, make the rest of us feel better?

I totally agree with PP about Kare banning the kids from the bedroom, brought tears to my eyes, and cuddled extra when my kids crept into our bed before dawn:crowded:

I did some more "research." All the children are by the same donor father. According to one article the mother said that she had frozen embreyos left and didn't wan tthem to go to waste. OK that is fine! I completely see that, especially if you put religious feelings/beliefs into the mix. But for the Dr to put all 8 in at one time?!?! 4 and 4 I could understand, but 8.... Yes, it is a patience's right to determine their medical treatment, but for ANY Dr to do that IMO s/he or the practice needs to be investigated!

Hey, I rarely want there to be anyone around to see my bad moments...and if it is it should be DH. TV no way! Unfortunately the kids don't have a choice. And shame on TLC if they do mostly edit to show the kids most upsetting and embarassing times...ratings possibly, but ethics...where, where:confused3 IMO

I only occassionally watch Kate and the rest of the bunch....glad they don't film at MY house. I did catch the episode with the new house and the parents' pronouncement of no kids in their room. When we moved into our new house 14 years ago, we made the SAME statement to our then 3 and 7 year old DDs.....but 2 additional kids later I hate so say that we have had very few NO kid nights...seems that someone always needs something and they hang out and watch TV in here. Right now DD11 (the youngest) is reading as I am typing- neither of us feels good and we are lounging in the bed. Every once in a while I make the edict again...lasts for about 5 minutes. I will be VERY intersted to see if Jon and Kate can make their edict last....somehow I don't think so! Kate may be OCD, but underneath it all she is a big wimp!!!!!

Maddie isn't all that bad, either. She has "spirit". Unfortunately, I think her sister Cara is a little more even tempered, so it makes Maddie seem worse. Being the oldest isn't much fun- especially when you have lots of younger sibs. She seems a little pre-teen mouthy- but in the greater scheme of things, she really is a great kid. Actually, they all are....normal, occassionlly rotten but generally loving kids. I don't think I personally would put my family on TV (more out of fear than moral high ground!).....but they aren't a train wreck, and it is kinda fun to watch them grow up- they really are beautiful kids.

Now, the new mom with the 14 kids sounds, well, a little off. THAT one has me worried. Shall we take bets as to how long before child services is involved?

At the children's request? :lmao:
I could see the oldest 2 call for some nights of sleep without crying babies.

You know, I've never thought about that. They like to show the kids shoving eachother and screaming and run around.... not sleeping or getting read to. They want to show how crazy their life is. They're gonna use the craziest footage they can get.

I watched the new house episode, tonight, and I must say that I was shocked they kicked the kids out of the bedroom and threatened severe punishment. What if there was an emergency? When we were kids, if one of us was throwing up, someone always ran downstairs to get mom and dad. And in the mornings, we'd run downstairs and get in bed with them.... I can't believe they'd kick their kids out of their room. I think she's gonna back down on that.

And the fridge.... I didn't really see what the big deal was. I think she overreacted (like she does to most things). I mean.... who really cleans the refrigerator that often? To do so, you have to take all of the food out and it gets hot and goes bad. The only time it's really necessary (imo) is when something is spilled in there. Then empty the shelf and the one below it and wipe up the mess. Germaphobes annoy me. A little dirt doesn't do much harm. Sure, the fridge was dirty and she had to clean it.... but she didn't have to make such a big deal about it.

I like the house, though. It's a nice house.
