OT: jon and Kate + 8 new house?

I do not think that you can rightfully compare Jon and Kate to Walt Disney or Bill Gates! These were/are very intelligent people who worked hard doing what they love to do and just happened to become extremely successful as a result of giving the public a product that is unique and untapped. This is as great buisness model to follow. J and K are intelligent enough to know how to play the system and they just happened to get lucky. Kind of like winning a lottery I guess! A huge difference here. Success has a different meaning when you really WORK for it!

Also...most people that I know in "America" would think that an eight thousand square foot home is considered somewhat of a mansion! I would be lost in half of that amount of space:)

Okay, Walt Disney might be a stretch.... but Bill Gates (and most definitely Warren Buffet) are definitely valid comparisons. Bill Gates is rich because he knows when to take an opportunity and when to invest. (Walt Disney also recognized opportunities, ftw) Take what you have and make the best of it. I see nothing wrong with that method.

8,000 square feet isn't a mansion. There are many people in my hometown of Podunk, SC who have 10,000+ square foot homes. It may be large for the "average" American, but obviously, Jon and Kate aren't average - they have sextuplets! It's their income, and if they choose to use it to invest in a good size home, I see nothing wrong with it.

Quite frankly, I think most of the fuss about the Gosselin family is fueled by jealousy.

Don't kid yourself KAte has had plenty of HELP.WHen those kids were born.. they received a free lifetime supplyof diapers and formula for the sextuplets, a local car buisness donated a new van,and several local buisnesses and govt agencies in PA set up college funds in each of the kids names. How many other families of mulitples are that lucky?Kate is so FOS I can't take it.Maybe she wouldn't have needed a nurse if she would have been a tad bit nicer to the volunteers( some of us were nursesand some were her co workers), and others who were willing to and did help her till she threw us out of the house.I have no use for people who cry for help then spit in the face of it.I just worry about this media circus and the children. What happens to them when the camers stop rolling and are no longer interested?

I am sure she has had plenty of help. I do not dispute that. Our local news even reported on the things that they received after the birth as well as all the volunteers and church members offering help. They also reported that the church members helped to remodel their first home and donated baby items. I was just relating what was said in a PA newspaper about the medicaid issue. I am not here to defend her or to criticise her as I do not know them personally. It does look like they are out to take advantage of every situation that comes their way though from what I have seen on the show. How many of us wouldn't do the same thing though? However that in no way makes it ok to be mean to people or to push them out of your life if she in fact has done those things. From what I have seen on the show I could see her doing those things.

Other families with multiplies have received some of these things as well such as free diapers, baby food and strollers from national brand companies. Granted these families have not taken advantage of the situation nor did they ask for the items. The companies in most cases gave these items to these people in exchange for advertising since they know these families are going to make the news in one form or another.

Now, I don't really see much wrong with what they're doing. Them having their own TV show is better Dina Lohan and so many other parents shoving their children into the spotlight. At least they aren't really impacting their kids' lives... making them work. All their kids have to do is be themselves. They have eight children to support.... they have to make money somehow. Like someone else has said, they're very intelligent. They get mostly free vacations to promote hotels and attractions. Apparently they've made enough to buy a new house. But, Jon still works. And Kate stays at home with all of those kids - no nanny.

Jon doesn't work outside the home anymore, he is home all the time with Kate and the kids. Apparently they make plenty of money to support their family from the show and their other business ventures. :thumbsup2
Actually to me there are some similarities between J & K and Mrs. Lohan and other "stage parents/managers". They are making their own living off their kids. To me they have sacrificed a lot of their kids' privacy to make that living. Their choice.

I am baffled by the Kate /Medicaid thing though..I still don't see why a person makes a life choice ( such as fertility drugs),has 5,6,7 or 8 babies and suddenly it is the local government and the state and federal government infrastructure that is supposed to help and be responsible because they allow the use of fertility drugs .If you are going to use these drugs( I did briefly use clomid and got way too sick from it), you know the risks, and therefore must also accept you may get multilple babies which you are now responsible for financially and legally.

I still don't see the comparison, but to each his/her own! I can not speak for others but I for one am not jealous of the Gosselins what so ever. If they want to makw money off of rheir kids are finw woth it then that is their paremtal decision to make. Discovery channel as qell as TLC just sees the dollar signs the family brings in as well...as of now anyway. My original point was to say that the show dynamics have definately changed over the years and it will surely effect the views people have of them that have watcjed from the begining- myself included! More power to you if you still think the show has something to offer the average "American" family...besides the ability to spend your hard earned cash on books and Gosselin merchandise.

Its wonderful that you or anyone has the opportunity to perchase such an expensive home...no jealousy here. I am happy with my 2800 sq foot home and two beautiful kids and wonderful DH! Now that to me is all the sucess I need to be happy:)

I agree, I can't speak for others, but for me personally I'd ask jeaslous of WHAT???

The house? No thanks, too much to clean. I'd rather be enjoying my family then cleaning.

The trips, yeah they are nice but so are the ones we take.

The family? Nope, I have a GREAT one. I have a husband who is my absolute best friend in life. He and I have a love, and equally importance a respect that I would not trade for anything in this world. We have 3 beautiful girls that we actually ENJOY.

The money? You can't put a price on having your life and privacy.

Nope, I am definatly not jealous. If my house gets messy and I am having fun with my kids, I'll clean it tomorrow. If we feel like having ice cream sundaes for dinner, we do, we'll have an extra vegetable tomorrow. If mud gets on my floors, who am I kidding, WHEN mud gets on my floors, I wipe it up. If m y kids get ice cream on their clothes, I laugh (an often take a picture.) Nope, I can't see a reason to be jealous and my family of 5 lives on a budget in under 1200 sf and I could not be happier! Whats more my husband and girls are happy!!!

Apparently they've made enough to buy a new house. But said:
Are you sure Jon still works? I don't know. Also, about the no nanny thing. It is NOT about the fact that she wants to do it herself and be with her kids. It is that Kate doesn't want anyone else to get money from the show. There is a blog from the family of Jody I think her name is. She is the aunt the kids used to go see a lot and she was on the show a lot. According to the blog, aunt Jody is not on the show anymore because Kate didn't want anyone else to be paid to be on the show...aside from the teenager you see there, who I haven't seen in a few weeks now either. From what the blog says, aunt Jody misses the kids and they miss seeing her and her family. Kate says they are her kids and they want to do it without help now. I don't believe that. I believe they are selfish thanks to the money. I remember one show where they went to see Oprah and she about fainted, now it is like no big deal to be on Oprah and Oprah should be GLAD to see them, not the other way around.

It's just my opinon. I used to love the show especially since my son is there kids age. I still watch it sometimes but mostly just to see how rude Kate is going to be that week.:rolleyes2

I was looking at the website where they have their old home for sale someone posted. What's with all those notes on the bathroom mirror???

I agree with what most everyone has said here. I used to really like this show even thought kate was always annoying. But now its just over the top and I wonder how long they can keep going?

YEAH, she and Jon both did not deny possible adoption one day on the last interview show (last week episode I think). Well, at least that explains the need for the extra large house :)

Good luck trying to adopt with 8 kids already though...and no 'real' income/jobs. Most adoption agencies won't talk to you if you already have a large family and most countries that adopt to the USA won't talk to you if you have more than their specified limit (which is usually 4 or less).

Maybe they could find a teenager that would adopt to them since they are 'stars' but still.....I don't think it would be the greatest situation for the child or for the Gosselins.

Didn't that helper come on after Aunt Jodi was not longer "on the show?" If I'm thinking the the same one who went on the recent vacations (beach, Hawaii). The one that went skiing was Beth's daughter?

Oh the family stuff, that makes me so sad. My kids don't have any aunts, uncles, cousins, almost no extended family. I can't imagine severing ties with your family (who we all see did so much for them) and your close friends who were like family (Beth and her family were as good as family) over money, or really more over greed. I think it is so sad for those kids who were so attached to the loved ones in their lives and now they are just gone. I wonder what they tell the kids about that? Has that been discussed on the show? You know what goes around comes around, I would not be surpried if the kids all "grow apart" from mom and dad after all they have learned from their example that people are disposable.

I feel sorry for all of them, not just the Gosslin kids but Beth and Jodi's families.

Kids are resilant and at this young age how much will they remember?...at least the quints. What happens though when they see the show when they are grown? Will the truth come out or will it be a lie or nice spin?!?!

Even after 15 year ER is ending and they had the options of changing casts and writers if thing got stale...really, how long do they think the show will go on? I hope for the kids sake (and the parents too) that they have/are using whe money they do get wisely. I would think it would be very difficult to downgrade on housing and go back to budgeting the grocery bill (especially when they are all in their teens!).

I agree with that to a certain extent, but the loss of family connection stays with you forever. I have one aunt and one uncle, I never see them, talk to them maybe once every other year or so. To this day it bothers me that I have no fmaily ties nor do my children. Thankfull my DH and I have buildt a strong family with the 5 of us and hope to have broken the cycle (so to speak). To look back and see why you have no family though, and to see it was your parents doings, that will be hard to overcome.

Reality TV has nothing to offer the "average American family." The average American family is a bore. Most of us live that life everyday - we don't need to watch someone else do exactly what we do. Which is why the Gosselins were never "average" to begin with. They have eight kids - two sets of multiples. They have their own television show. No one with their own television show is "average." Which is why shows like this draw a crowd - the viewers are interested in non-"average" lives.

And if none of you are (admittedly) jealous of the Gosselins, then why are you spending your precious time complaining about the way they choose to live their lives?

Uhhh...because this is a discussion board? And that's what we do here???

Jealous? NO! Love MY smaller family and wouldn't want theirs even with the larger house, vacations, and income!

On the boards? Because I am a SAHM who would rather be on the computer than clean toilets and do laundry while the kids are at school.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
