OT International Flight?

I know that there are a few people on this board that travel internationally and I was wondering if they would be kind enough to answer a few questions.

1. Do the airlines allow smoking on international flights?

2. Has anyone been to Rome lately and if so could I get some advice on hotels?

1. As far as I know, no carriers have smoking on flights - definitely not any North American carrier or British Airways, Air France, or Lufthansa (the non N. American carriers I've flown recently).

2. I haven't been to Rome since 2004, but I'd suggest this site:http://rome-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g187791-Rome_Lazio-Vacations.html
They have a hotel ranking (with comments and real pictures - as opposed to the photos the hotel provides), plus a forum (I've not used the Rome forum, but the London and Paris forums have been most helpful and the Rome forum appears quite active with almost three pages of threads with new posts within the past 24 hours).

1- The few carriers left that allow it are predominantly in the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Latin America. No major North American and European carriers allow smoking

Smoking is prohibited on flights to and from the US as well as those within the US.

As for hotels, it's been a while since I did Rome. One suggestion is to go to www.fodors.com. Click on Talk on the top of the page and then the Euorpe forum. You can search on there or ask specific questions. It helps to have a budget in mind. (For example, don't just say "budget hotels" but ask about "hotels under $x" Some folks budget is other's "luxury"!)

I am thankful smoking is not allowed on flights between USA and Europe.

Sorry I don't have suggestions for hotels in Rome. I live so close I just take day trips.
