OT: Infant Reflux--HELP!

My DGD had reflux. She was crying all of the time, could not eat and was very underweight. My DD insisted that tests be run, listened to all of the pediatricians advice and yet the baby was miserable. At 7 months old the baby was still not able to really eat and my DR made an appointment with a pediatric endocrinologist which her pediatrician canceled. She then called another pediatrician who started Kady on baby zantac that day. Our little one was in a danger zone for her weight, her esophagus was terribly swollen and she was in pain. She has been seeing a pediatric gastroenterologist since, has stabilized her weight and is healthy. I wish I could tell you that she has outgrown the reflux, but at six she is taking the highest does of previcid a little one can take. She is living with some food allergies that made the reflux worse.

I would suggest taking your baby for another opinion. It cannot hurt, mu DD is sorry that she trusted the first Dr, who kept saying tha tthe baby should be that weight. Once she was under the care of another Dr, and seeing the specialists at the children's Hospital she found that my beautiful liitle Kady was diagnosed with failure to thrive and was very lucky that my DD and DSIL continued to try tio get her medical care.

My nephew has reflux. Medecine helped him. When they started him on solids he thew everything up. After 2 weeks on the meds the doctor said to try solids again. He kept them down last week. Yeah!

My DD7mos was diagnosed at 2 weeks with reflux. We never had horrible spitting- some early on, but the ped put her on zantac at 2weeks and that helped the spitting greatly. Her crying in pain came back and we went in again and he switched her to previcid. That too seemed to help for a bit, but things got worse again. It was weird because my DD was such a happy baby, but at night her level of discomfort would cause her to be awake and crying. We still havent slept a night since she was born and we are wearind down fast. On a sick weekend dr. visit the dr. on call switched her to reglan. That was a horrible mistake. It wired her and now she was awwake and crying most of the night. We took her off that quickly and went to the ped. GI. He put her on Previcid in the am and Zantac in the pm. She also started out nursing, but weaned herself at 4mos. I also tried to avoid certain foods, but she still screamed when nursinng and actually seemed to do better on formula. We had to go from regular milk based to lactose free, then to soy and now the hypoallergenic! Things have gotten better, but she still is crying in her sleep 5-6 times per night. We also tried putting her in the swing, bouncy, car seat, propping her in the boppy, and using the wedge. Nothing seemed to help her sleep too much better except the boppy and then she got too big and was moving around a lot and we had to keep shifting her back up in it. Everyone says it will pass and she wil outgrow it. I just hope it is soon! The drs told me to start her on solids at 4mos and that would help hold things down. It didnt seeem to help and she has a horrible gag reflex. If it is a food she doesnt like the taste of and it gags her- watch out- you will be wearing it! She also gags really bad on table foods (cheerios, creamed potatoes, etc.)- anything not completely pureed. Im wondering what she will end up eating after second foods. Guess Ill wait till her 9mo checkup and ask dr. Im also thinking she has a milk allergy because I tried going back to the milk based formula (carnation this time-supposed to be more gentle) and after just two bottles she was throwing up like crazy-major vomiting. How do they test for an allergy?
