OT- I'm not ready for this yet!!

To PP, I have all my older DD's teeth and all the ones my yonger 2 DDs have lost so far. I won't throw them away either.

One thing to OP, when my kids loose a tooth they get a popcicle, it started with a way to stop the bleeding, but even if they don't bleed they get one. And it is a treat sometimes because we have had them fall out first thing in the morning (breakfast popcicle) and right before dinner, that's ok too. The one on the sledding hill she needed one so we used snow, and then when we got home she still asked for it and I gave it to her, it's tradition I guess. It really does stop the bleeding fast if you get a bleeder.

LOL...OK, here's the deal. Do not EVER allow your kids to find those teeth even as adults. When my sister and I were teenagers, we were snooping around my parent's bedroom. (I have no idea why, we were nosey) We found a glass jar full of baby teeth. It really freaked us out. It was disgusting. My mom had 12 kids, so you can imagine how may teeth were in this jar.

Keep the teeth if you want, but take them to your grave and never let the kids see them.

My kids know I keep them, they look at them all the time. On the first tooth we always write the TF a note and say "Mommy can't part with my teeth, so please leave them for her." She always has...

What is there to worry about? I would be more worried if my child didn't have any loose teeth. It's a natural occurance. All baby teeth fall out. There is no trauma involved. Maybe a quick bout of pain when the tooth is coming out, but then that's it. The pain is gone once the tooth is out. I would stop worrying and just make this milestone excited.

PS: The more worried you are/seem, the more stressed your DD is going to be about it.

I know, I know. It's stupid. It is a wonderful milestone, but my babies are growing up.

My only advice - make sure you have money in the house. I very very rarely carry cash on me and I just assumed that my DH had money on him. So when it came time for the "Tooth Fairy" to visit, I opened his wallet. All he had was a $5 and a $20 bill!!! So instead of getting the preplanned $1, she got $5!

AMEN AMEN AMEN.

This is EXACTLY what happened to us. The lowest bill I had was a fiver. So now we are stuck hiding $5 for every tooth. For two kids......

I was lucky to get a quarter.

Okay here is a story for you!

My DS had a nasty fall at 20 mths. Ended up losing 5, yes FIVE teeth. His two top front and then 3 to the left of the front. So he has had no teeth ever since. He has a metal spacer bar in place. They probably will not grow in until 7-8. We go to the dentist very frequently.

Well he has recently lost one bottom and has another bottom one loose. Talk about nervous, the poor kid won't have any teeth in his mouth!

Of course he doesn't care. He eats everything, just pops it to the right side and never misses a beat!

I feel your pain... I worry about this all the time, why I can't pinpoint why it bothers ms. My DD4 is my little girl and I know she is growing up, but loosing teeth to me feels official, so I am right with you! I even panicked 2 days ago when she told me one of her teeth hurt so I started pushing on the front to make sure they weren't loose. I am just not ready to have that happen...

DD5 has already lost four teeth, and she has two more loose teeth. She lost her first two teeth at 4 years old. Her preschool teacher said it was the first year she has had more kids lose their first tooth than not!

I did pull one that was hanging by a thread and it bled more than DD would have liked, but she has pulled all her other ones!

Funny you mention this, because we told our kids that the TF is friends with Tinker Bell! One of the girls had a loose tooth on a WDW trip and worried the TF wouldn't find it, so we told them that the fairies know each other and Tinker Bell takes care of teeth lost at WDW!

When my DD lost a tooth in Disney, I know it was loose so I bought a tooth pillow in Disney our first day and held onto it. Sure enough, the tooth fell out (in the pool at ASSp). She woke up to the pillow, a note from Tinkerbell and the tooth fairy (my DD beleived they were sisters or at least cousins), a couple Disney Dollars and some Mickey confetti. She has the note stuck in the pillow still (this was 4 years ago) and we saved the confetti too.

I've known 4 year olds who have lost teeth. We're late teethers here - dd12 lost her first tooth in 2nd grade, and is NOT patiently waiting on 4 teeth to fall out, so she can get braces, and have hope that they won't be on for her senior prom. The only issue with early teethers is that the longer permanant teeth stay under the gums, the healthier they are, so just make sure to get a professional cleaning every 6 months, and regular brushing.

I'm waiting for the same thing from my son. He's going to be 11 next week and needs to lose 2 more loose teeth before the ortho wants to start on him. I'm hoping he will be done with braces by high school.

My DD lost hers at 4. My husband is from Aruba so he doesn't always get some of our American traditions. He knew the tooth fairy came but he thought she gives gifts like Santa. My daughter called me at work to tell me she lost her tooth and daddy told her that she was getting a big gift from the tooth fairy.
ugggh I had to get a gift that night. The next day she was wiggling the next one for another gift. I'm trying to tell her sometimes she gets money ...like a dollar...but it's not working. I hope I'm done with gifts before my DD2 begins to understand.

Last year when DS was 5 he had his first loose tooth. (this is a very important milestone!) When he got off the school bus one day he smiled big "Mom, I lost my tooth!"

"That's great, Honey, where is it?"

"I lost it!"

"Yes, I know you lost it but where is it now? let me see it!"

"No, I Lost it, lost it. On the playground!"

Lost-lost a first tooth???? This was terrible. As my husband looked on, I questioned my son like a seasoned detective "Where EXACTLY were you standing when you lost it? What direction were you facing" My husband says "No...don't even think about trying to find it. You're crazy, you'll never find it! "

DON'T TRY TO FIND MY BOY'S FIRST LOST TOOTH???? Heck with him! I drove my boy BACK to school. Planted him right where he said he was standing, made him face the same direction, had him hold his arm the same way he had had when another kid bumped it and made the tooth fly out of his hand.

You know what??? I found that tooth! Right there in the woodchips! I only had to dig for a minute to get it! Other parents happened to be there and were watching me like I was a lunatic when I jumped up and started yelling "I found it! I found it!" DS was all like "Gee. that's great, can we go home now?"

I gave him $5 for that tooth.

My 5 1/2 year old is FREAKED out about loosing teeth. She is a big time pack rat and has trouble getting rid of everything from broken toys to clothes that don't fit. She even went through a phase where she was keeping food wrappers like gum, fruit snacks etc and hiding them in the toy box because she didn't want to throw them away. So I think a big part of her fear is just not wanting to give up something that belongs to her. The tooth fairy idea also scared her. She didn't like the idea of someone sneaking into her room at night while she was sleeping. She just kept saying it and saying it and you could tell she was scared about it. So I finally told her I was her tooth fairy which helped a little. Then she asked me if she could be her little sisters tooth fairy

OP, I'm glad I'm not the only one freaked about that stage! My first DD isn't even 2 yet, but we overheard a conversation at a restaurant the other day where a family in the booth behind us had a kid lose a tooth while we were eating. It started me thinking about how that's something we will have to deal with, and it does freak me out a little! I appreciate all these stories for a little less freak-out-ishness.

*knock on wood* I have yet to actually forget...I mean the TOOTH FAIRY has yet to forget to come. She's come close, though. Like falling asleep and waking up in a panic in the middle of the night realizing she forgot. From what I hear, of course...

DD#1 pulled her first tooth out at soccer practice a couple of yrs ago- and just tossed it- no I did not search the field for it- DD#2 fell at the park going up a ladder to the slide (at about 23 mos) and knocked her front tooth out root and all- did look fot that one never found it- emergency roomtrip x rays and all- still hasn't grown in but she is only 5 and now has a loose one! GooD Luck --I also say have plenty of 1s on hand (or what ever you decide to give)

5 is the average age for a first lost tooth around here.

My 2 oldest lost theirs before K even started and we are waiting for the youngest to get loose. (She is in K this year.) It was funny when my oldest lost hers. She was loosing and my youngest was just getting her first.

I know exactly how you feel! DS was 5 when he got his first loose tooth. I sent DH to the internet to see if it was too soon! I was so panicked and worried! It was all fine. The next day, while eating some pizza, he says "Mom, I am bleeding". We looked in his mouth and his tooth was gone! We looked everywhere...but he must have swallowed it! His 1st tooth! So, I called the Dr. ( I am a nervous nelly..can you tell?), and they said it was fine that he swallowed it...he would pass it and probably never know it (which is what happened). So, he drew a picture of his tooth to put under his pillow and scored $5 from the tooth fairy.
