OT: I have saminella Peanut Butter!!!

I just checked and found I have a nearly empty jar of the Peanut butter. :scared1: DGD4 recently decided she will only eat Peter Pan PB so I have an unopened one too.

my local dillons/kroger said they would NOT take them back -- they were most unhelpful -- and rude -- so I have to send the lids in. I have 4 jars I bought last week.....was going to make several bathces of pb cookies for a school event.

Hmmmmm somehting to be said for good customer service. :confused3

I have a giant Peter Pan jar with a lid and the # starts with 2111. I have no idea where I bought it- I shop at 4 or 5 different grocery stores and I bought this a few weeks ago. The good news is- it is 3/4 gone and nobody got sick. I am not going to send in the lid- I am so sorry to all of you who got sick or who had to deal with sick kids because of this.
All I can say is it is a good thing pediatricians now tell you not to give your kids PB until they are 3- this could put some damage to a really small child. I hope we don't see any critically ill people or , God forbid, fatalaties.

My mom's best friend just got out of the hospital after a bad case of Salmanella. Turns out hers was tracked back to the jar of peanut butter she had recently been eating a lot of. This jar was the same brand and lot number that they are recalling so I'm not sure why they're saying they haven't found any yet and it's just a precaution...:confused3

BTW - I'm a choosy mom too:) We only buy Jif!

The whole thing is strange. WE never buy PP PB either, but did this last week. DD had 2 sandwhiches from it. And I had one. It did smell and taste a bit funny, but I thought it was the different flavor jelly we bought. Guess it was our nasty PB!

I have one TOO!!! It looks like it may have 1/4 of it gone. We dont eat alot of PB sandwiches, so I think this might have been used for CHeerio treats, and they always give me a stomach ache, so its hard to tell if it is tainted or not.

I am throwing it out tho.

We usually Buy Peter Pan PB, well because it has Peter Pan on it :) But this is my issue, I actually went cheap! and bought WALMART brand Peanut Butter, trying to pich pennies for my upcoming trip... Ok here is my fear, the numbers on the top of the WM brand PB were 21111... is it contaminated? who makes WM brand PB???

We had some too. My husband took the jar over the weekend on a trip and ate almost the whole jar of PB!! He took one look at the code and threw it out. He he's been feeling fine so I think we got lucky!

Yes- Walmart- (Great Value I think) is part of the recall. Throw it out or take it back.

Did they actually get the jar of peanut butter she ate from and test it or did they ask her what she ate and then added her to the list of people who got sick who ate peanut butter? There's a big difference.

From what I understand, they just figured out what people ate and put 2 and 2 together. It remains to be seen if they came up with 4. They think it might be peanut butter, but there is no solid evidence, like actual contaminated jars, or at least not that I'm aware of.

This is a quote from the ConAgra site...
Now they are stating that returning your jar to the store is an option...

"If you have concerns about your health, please contact your doctor. Although none of our extensive product tests have indicated that salmonella is present, we are taking this precautionary measure because consumer health and safety is our top priority.

For a full product refund, you may choose to do one of two things:

You can return your opened or unopened jar of Peter Pan Peanut Butter or Great Value Peanut Butter to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. This is a new option available to consumers as of Feb. 16.
Or you can send your Peter Pan Peanut Butter or Great Value Peanut Butter lid with the product code beginning with 2111 to ConAgra Foods along with your name and mailing address for a full refund. That mailing address is ConAgra Foods, P.O. Box 3768, Omaha, NE 68103.
If you need any additional information about the recall of Peter Pan peanut butter and Great Value peanut butter starting with product code 2111, you can contact us in a variety of ways, including:

Send your questions or concerns to us via our online form.
Call our 24-hour, toll-free Consumer Affairs number: 866-344-6970.
If you've called this number and have not been able to get through, please bear with us, wait 30-60 minutes and try again. We know that many consumers are experiencing delays in reaching us. Hope this helps! :goodvibes

What's making me wonder about the mailing in for a refund is yesterday the news was telling people to send the lids to an address in CA. But the ConAgra website was saying an address in NE. Earlier today their website said NE. Now the address is in TX. I mailed mine to NE since that seemed to be the official line on their site. I hope they honor it there. I can only assume that they are trying to spread the mail load out amongst multiple locations. Otherwise there are going to be a lot of requests ignored because they went to the "wrong" address. Hopefully they'll honor the requests no matter where you send it.

OK...I have a question. I went to my pantry today to see if I have a tainted jar, and I think I do. My code number is not on the lid though, BUT on the side of the jar. It does start with 2111, so does that mean mine is part of the recall???:confused3 It is Peter Pan brand with the red label. I know I bought it at Kroger a month of so ago. My DS6 ate some on a sandwich when we first opened it and he said it tasted funny. We have not used it since, thank goodness.

It seems to me that if you aren't sure you could just return it to the store anyway, they'll tell you if it's not, or if you don't want to do that, throw it out. I mean, it's what, a $2 jar of peanut butter, better to be safe than sorry.

add me to the list. Seems to me that control number is spread throughout the country. But I can tell you I bought mine months ago and have been eating it off and on with no problems.

We have a big jar too and it's almost gone, ds eats PB&J for lunch everyday. I just tossed it and bought some Skippy, DS is fine.

A co-worker mentioned a few days ago that all the kids at her daughter's day care were sick. The head worker had mentioned it to her, because her daughter hadn't been sick and she wanted to warn her to watch out for her.

Turns out a mother called today to let them know the PB&J Sandwiches she'd sent in to celebrate HER kids birthday... .was with this tainted PB.
All but 4 kids in the entire daycare have been throwing up and ..yeah, you know the other end.... for two days.

We had not one, but two jars! DH likes that brand so he was the one eating it and he is fine. I eat Skippy.
