Ok so this is OT and but I just had to share because well I am psyched about it...anyway when I was first diagnosed with my disability I met this amazing man named Ron Mace who was a disability civil rights leader and created what is now known in architecture as Universal Design..anyway he introduced me to a group of disability rights advocates who are now known as the Universal Disability Advocates...well this group started awarding people Triangle Access Awards for removing barriers and promoting inclusion of individuals with disabilities...well I just found out that I recieved one of their awards....for Removing Attidudinal Barriers through my work in the arts.....I just thought this was so very cool and just wanted to share....

Sorry about the OT nature of this post.....

HEY CONGRATS!!!

Id love to hear more (and maybe look into) this organization!!...Do Tell :)

And pardon me for being cluless (ok I'm generally out of all loops LOL) but by OT do you mean Occupation Therapy...or something else?

Hey,
The organization is a non-profit that started maybe 8 years ago or so...it is comprised of individuals with all sorts of disabilities and there family members. There basic function is to be advocates for the disabled community, for example we got a new shopping center three years ago and they did not put in the correct amount of curb cuts..so if you parked in certain handicap spaces you would have to roll out into traffic then roll down a fire lane to get to a curb cut...well we looked up the information on accessible entrances in the ADA and NC Building Code and then we started advocating with the builder to make the necessary changes which they did....my DH now calls the curb cut nearest where I always park "his wifes curb cut"...they also go to businesses to discuss the ADA and to educate groups on breaking down stereotypes...The awards they are giving out are for individuals in the community who are breaking down barriers. This is only the second time these awards are being given out so its kind of new but also exciting. Of course the award ceremony is on July 26th which is the day we start the drive to WDW so I won't be there to accept but I requested that the theatre I work with accept the award for me.

OT = Off Topic.
I don't think it's OT at all. Anyone who has gotten an award like that must be full of pixie dust. Tinkerbell and pixie dust are all over WDW, so therefore, this post is perfectly on topic.
Congratulations to you. That is really great.
