OT: how do you dress your DD5?

I work at Gymboree. A lot of times it is the kids that don't want Gymboree cute. They want Limited Too next door.

Put rules in place before they are needed and the kids will take it better.
For example No tummies shown in school, ever. If they hear it at age 6 they'll put up with it better at 16 than if it is a new emergency ruling at age 16.

This is one of the best ideas I've ever heard. Thank you so much.
What would we do without the wisdom of our sisters? :goodvibes :grouphug:

I know how you feel! My DD just turned 6 and it is so hard!

Most of our favorite brands have already been mentioned-- Hanna Andersson, Talbots Kids, Gymboree (very limited these days), Gap Kids (occasionally, I liked Baby Gap so much better, but she has pretty much outgrown them), Lands End and a little bit of LL Bean.

But my favorite brand for her hasn't been mentioned at all-- Mini Boden! It is a bit "hipper" and "funkier" but not at all sleazy.

i like the pink and brown combo :teeth:

but i agree with Gymboree! i get everything there :)
The Childrens Place has nice pants there too :)

Sorry, Michelle, I meant no offense, I've seen somethings in p/b that I like too its just that my DD is an only child and relatively oblivious to fashion trends and I'd like to keep her little looking as long as possible. I figure I have plenty of days to come when she tells me what she will and won't wear :rotfl: but mostly I'm just in shock at some of the styles that these dept. stores have put out for these little girls. Yesterday, I was in JCP to buy tights for ballet class and this little girl was w/ her Mom shopping and she threw a hissy fit because her Mom wouldn't buy her -I'm really not kidding here- silver lame' bikini underpants that looked like they should be on some pole dancer in a stripjoint. :sad2:
Some of this stuff is just out of control.

Ugh. I HATE, HATE, HATE shopping for DD6!!!! All the "baby hooker" stuff out there is disgusting! And it seems that if the clothes aren't sleazy, they're just plain hideous. I'm the cheapest person on the planet, but had to give in and buy a bunch of dresses and shirts from Lands' End.

DS is still in toddler sizes, but I can't believe the difference in shopping for the kids! I could easily walk into Target and buy DS3 his entire wardrobe and find DD6 only one thing (other than solid colored leggings) suitable to wear. Why??? DD goes to a public school and is in first grade. I don't see her classmates wearing the horrible stuff dominating the stores, so who is buying it???

My older DD has always been very tall for her age so by around age 4 she was wearing the older girls' stuff. That's when I began shopping exclusively at Gymboree/Land's End and LLBean. I wait for the Gymboree promos such as Friends and Family 30% off and of course the Gymbucks. She just entered `1st grade and I had a very hard time school shopping with her because she wants to wear the "cool" stuff like her friends (she now wears a size 7). It was tough but we came out with only one pair of pink camouflage pants from The Children's Place...... :rotfl:

Good luck to you!!!!!

Wow, I have found the same problem this year! When I went shopping for DD5 for kindergarten I couldn't believe what a hard time I had finding cute age appropriate clothes! I have seen so many shirts that have the fabric pulled at the center of the chest to make them look like they have cleavage!!I did have some luck at Osh Kosh. She is in a size 5 and I was able to get her a couple of pairs of overalls there (I love overalls!) I usually love The Childrens Place, but was really disapointed with the fall line :( I agree Gap, Lands End (which they sell at Sears now!) and Gymboree have some really cute things- we love the preppy look. I always add the bows too. I make them, and she has a bow for every outfit. They grow up fast enough, I want to keep her a little girl as long as I can!!

As a mother of 2 boys and a girl (age 2) I can tell you that the boys stuff gets just as horrible after size 5T. My ds is 4 and wears a 7 (very tall for his age) and I refuse to let him wear some of the horrible stuff out there. I like nice clean cut pants - not ones with the pockets that go down to his knees with his butt hanging out! For my daughter who is a 4T I go all over to get her clothes. Sometimes Childrens Place has some nice stuff as well as Babies R Us. BRU goes up to 48months. Right now she's a little easier to shop for but I have to agree that I want my kids to look like kids- not hoochies!!! I had such beautiful dresses as a kid. Now they are rushing these kids to grow up so fast. It makes me sick. princess:

I am soooo happy to see this post. DD is in grade one and into 6x and venturing into 7s. The 7-14 sizes I do not like at all and I find very inappropriate for someone in first grade. So I am a big sale shopper at Gymboree. I'll buy ahead. Like this weekend got some nice summer tops for 5.99 and capris for 12.99. I like some of the things at Kohls in the 4-6x section by Carters and Sonoma and reasonably priced. Thought looking at the next area 7-14 at Kohls and don't like it. Also try Walmart. While much of the stuff is too old looking I found some very nice appropriate clothes there like a pink hoodie with butterfly embroidery and floral print tops and jeans with butterflies on them. Ebay is great for gently used Gymbo at lower prices.

My girls are 8 and 6...I know all about it!!!!

For back to school we went to the children's place outlet in Lancaster, PA! I found some really cute stuff there! We also hit the carters outlet for my younger daughter and son!!!!

I also agree with what so many others have said and also shop the stores already mentioned. My DD is 6 and wearing 7/8's. Luckily she LOVES the Land's End dresses. She's a dress girl. The Land's End dresses are both comfortable and cute. She has many of their different patterns. She also has clothes from Gymboree, Children's Place, Ralph Lauren, Laura Ashley, and Disney Store. We shop around and choose wisely.
