We found out we get to go to Hershey, PA with DH for his work conference which should be fun. We would like to stop about halfway along the way going there and going back to break the trip up for the kids.

I find several options in Zanesville and Cambridge Ohio but the reviews for all of them are all over the board. Is anyone familiar with the area and have a suggestion? We would like to stay as close to I70 as possible. It would also be nice to stay near restaurant choices and maybe a Target, Walmart or something similar. We would like to stay in a budget sort of hotel so we can save our money to spend in Hershey, but we want something clean and safe.

There are plenty of major chain restaurants/hotels along I-70 in Zanesville (I used to stop there on my trips from the East Coast to the Midwest).

Also, for those who have never tried it -- stop by Steak n' Shake, as they start becoming common sights along the Ohio/PA border.

I live about 90 minutes from that area, and the first thing when that came to mind when you mentioned Cambridge was Salt Fork state park.

It's probably not what you're looking for, since you'd have to drive about 10 miles off of I-70. But we (dh, me, dd's) have to make this a weekend trip every single year... we just absolutely love it there!

It's a huge lodge you stay in... has a great pool.. dining room and snack bar on-site.. and we always ask for a woods-view upper floor balcony room.. so nice and peaceful.

Best of all, right now they have a promotion going on that depending on how many A's your child gets on their report card, can get a room for $59 ($109 base rate, $10 off for each A up to 5).

Can't wait to go back this summer/fall!

ETA: Just looked and realized your children aren't school-age yet.. they do also have AAA rates ($99), and Government employee rates ($59).

I have stayed in Cambridge for work a few times, and I would highly recommend the Hampton Inn - it is among the best Hampton Inn Properties throughout the entire chain.

Very friendly, VERY clean, and easy access on/off the interstate.

There is a Cracker Barrel right across the road, and a K-Mart on the other side of the highway.

Nice area - and ideal for an overnight.

It looks really nice, I just don't think we want to get that far off the interstate. I wish we had more time to go there on the way home, but we have to get back for my dd's dress rehersal.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am leaning toward this one. It is a little more pricey than the others I have looked at but it looks very nice. How was the pool/grounds?
