Hey there ladies and gents, we are driving to Disney in August, and decided we would stop at Daytona Beach for one night. I dont mind spending around 100 dollars, my only pre-req's are on the beach, and a continental breakfast. Does anyone have any personal references? Come on Im sure someone knows some hotel, that isnt a dump, but I dont need a palace either!!!

Our favorite is the Sun Viking, in DB Shores (quieter down south). No breakfast, but your room does have a kitchen, so you could always hit Publix for some pastries and coffee on your way in. They do have little beachfront coffee shop next to the pool, and the breakfast there is quite inexpensive.

thanks for the suggestion, but I think its too rich for our blood for just one night. They were quoting 149 to 179. Looking for 100 or less for one night

Do not stay at La Playa, I can provide you with photos of the rooms and they are horrific. It was only 1 night, but really it was too long. If you are not set on Daytona, I would look elsewhere, Daytona was really disappointing, really run down.

That's odd. It must be your dates. We normally stay for about $85/night in the summer for a side-view room, but they are always a bit higher on weekends. Holidays are always VERY high in Daytona, too, and crowded, so we make it a point to avoid being there then.

When you said oceanfront, did you mean full oceanfront view, or just not having to cross the street to reach the beach? A full view is going to cost you, no matter where you go.

There are a lot of yucky hotels in Daytona - so be ready!!!

WE have stayed at the LaQuinta right on the beach 2x and have found it to be pretty nice. The pool is right on the beach, with access right to the beach/ocean!!! The pool and hot tub are really nice!! They also have the typical free breakfast!!:thumbsup2

I'm interested in knowing as well. I will be stopping in Daytona the day before our Disney vaction to take my nieces to see the ocean for the first time. There is a thread on the budget board with a similar question about Daytona but there wasn't any real consensus on a hotel that is safe and clean. I'm a AAA member and I've found that 3 diamonds and up are the safest way to go. I have found that beach front properties even with 3 diamonds can still have mold, etc on the shower curtain and in the tiles...yuck! That is what I'm trying to avoid. I've gone on tripadvisor, aaa, yahoo, hotels.com etc to research the reviews and the places and have ended up with a reservation at the Holiday Inn on the Beach (I'm keeping my fingers crossed) at the time I made my resv. it was under $100 with a continental breakfast. :wizard:

I can't help with where TO stay but I can tell you one hotel to avoid--El Caribe. It was smelly, moldy, rundown, unsafe...I could go on. Hope you find a great hotel for your trip. We did LOVE Daytona and can't wait to go back, just not at this hotel:scared1:

We booked Dream Inn (Daytona Beach Shores) soley from their internet photos. They made it look like a cozy little beach hotel. Bad idea! It was beyond terrible. We didn't stay for 5 minutes and just booked the Days Inn nextdoor. Try tripadvisor.com and search Daytona Beach/Shores. You'll get some candid and helpful info.

We recently returned from our trip and spent two days at the beach. We opted for New Smyrna Beach which is considered part of the Daytona Beach area, but is not as crowded. We stayed at the Holiday Inn which was right on the beach. I paid $94 per night for pre-booking online. We were there on a Sunday and Monday night so note that weekend nights cost a bit more. All of the rooms have a view of the ocean. Our room had a perfect view. We could take the elevator down and walk out the door directly to the beach. There's also a pool that you can access right from the beach.

The rooms are suites, so the two queen beds were in a separate bedroom with a door that closed. Then there was a living room area where the couch also pulled out into a bed. Both rooms had 42" flat screen TVs. There was also a kitchenette and table. The "kitchen" had a full size frige, a micro, and cabinets with dishes and utensils.

The 2nd floor of the hotel served breakfast each day. For hotel guests the cost was a mere $2.22 per person which included eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausage and pancakes. The windows in the restaurant (which was only open for breakfast) had glass from top-to bottom all the way around, so you could sit and have a huge view of the ocean. We opted to get our food to go on the morning we checked out and just ate in the room while we packed.

ETA: Adding info that if you join the holiday rewards club (it's free), you will earn a free night's stay at participating Holiday Inns if you book and stay for 2 nights. So, we have a free night now that we can use at a different Holiday Inn.
