Any nurses out there?

I just came home from a hopsital stay to have baby #2. Since it was a c-section, I was in 4 days. I'd like to send a thank you gift for the nurses, since I really appreciated their care during my stay. I was thinking about a cookie boquet, fruit basket, or something, but not really sure. Any ideas for what would be appreciated?

Thanks!

As a nurse myself, I can definitely say that nurses appreciate food. They would also like it if you wrote a thank-you note to them and sent a copy to the hospital administration, that means alot that someone recognizes them that much. There is also an individual "Daisy" nurse award, whereby any nurse that receives it, the entire unit gets fresh Cinnabons- YUM!!

When my DD had her baby she was in labor for a very long time and the nursses were amazing. I sent gift baskets for each shift that included cookies, teas and chocolates. When DH adn i went back in to visit several stopped to tell me that they really appreciated the food and thay they had been nibbling all throught their shifts.

Another nurse here...We LOVE food..We can't accept any other gifts really so cookies or just a card is always nice

Thanks all. We'll send food (I like the gift baskets to different shifts).

I also appreciate the info about a thank you note, and copy to hospital admin too (luckily, I kept track of all my nurses' names).

We do love food! However, I did want to mention what someone else mentioned above..consider one for day shift and night shift. As a night shift worker, several time food is brought in during the day for various reasons... and we get the bottom of the barrel (if anything)

Food! definately do one for the day shift and one for night shift, they will really appreciate it (especially the night shift because there is usually nothing left by the time their shift starts)!

P.S. Congratulations on your newest bundle of joy!

Definitely food. ...and I agree, as a night shifter, that it be 2 separate baskets, because little is ever left over for nights. Also, check with the hospital. Most have some sort of employee recognition program where you can write a letter or call to give praise for employees. This type of thing is always appreciated as it goes in their personnel file.

Nurses (and Drs.) enjoy having food and snacks around during their shifts. I would think it would be much appreciated.

Congrats.

Agreed with food :) and (being a nigh shift nurse on an OB floor) to each shift :D

Also, I always appreciate it when families send a snapshot of the baby or family! It is so fun to get to see that baby OUTSIDE of the hospital setting!

Have you heard of edible arrangements? It's basically a fruit basket, but made to look like a boquet of flowers. Can get chocolate dipped ones too. The nurses on my floor, when having my second, ate it up...literally. I wasn't allowed to eat till I had "movement," so I couldn't enjoy it. Had to give it away. But they seem to love the novelty of it.

I was in a similar situation and had DH stop at Krispy Kreme on the way in to pick me up to go home. He got a few boxes of "fresh off the line" donuts and we dropped them off at the nurses' station. You would have thought those people hadn't eaten in days, the way they got so excited over those fresh donuts! Enjoy your new little one, BTW!

We don't eat at all during our shifts sometimes- so 12-16 hr shifts and a kind person with donuts=happy people..LOL

Another vote for snacks for the shifts!! Also, name names in your note, I know appreciation letters that I get are copied and put into my personnel file. Always good to get "fan" mail! Goodness knows we hear from the unhappy people, nice to hear from the happy ones too!!
Congratulations!
