Just in case anybody is looking for one, we just bought the Cuisinart ICE-25 model and quickly fell in love with it. We got it for $46 on Amazon with free shipping (another vendor has it for $40 but adds $15 for shipping so it's cheaper to pay more for the item).

It is very simple to use and works great. We made a batch of vanilla ice cream that is delicious and a batch of lemon sorbet that is as good as any I've ever had.

So a big thumbs up here :thumbsup2 .

This one? I don't see the free shipping.... :guilty:
That's the one. Click on "9 used & new available from $40.00" and select the one from Amazon, not the one from etronics. It is $46.69 with free shipping. From etronics, it is $40 but shipping is $15.90 for a total of $55.90.

do you know approximately how much it costs to make a batch? and is that a quart? or two quarts?

The machine makes 1-1/2 quarts. As for cost, certainly that varies based on where you buy ingredients.

The batch of vanilla uses:
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
1-2 teaspoons vanilla

I ran over to our nearest (but most expensive) supermarket and bought the milk and cream, so I know I overpaid. I know I can get them considerably cheaper elsewhere. But based on what I did pay, I guess the batch cost about $3 or so.

For the sorbet, you need:
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1-1/2 cups lemon juice
zest of 1 lemon

I actually had a supply of lemon juice in the freezer. I save it from when we make lemoncello and only use the rind. All I had to buy was one lemon for zest which was $.30.

It probably works out a bit more expensive than a good sale at the store, but I like that it is fresh and has zero additives, preservatives or artificial ingredients. Also, we haven't tried yet, but you can substitute ingredients to make the items lower fat or sugar-free. We'll be trying that next.

I have a cuisinart ice cream maker and I love it! It tastes so good and it is so easy to use. I can't find my recipe book for it though. There are alot of great recipes online too! Definetly worth every dime. princess:
