This makes me so very sad. A teen we know has been disowned by his family after coming out to them. Actually, they waited until he turned 18 and was getting ready to go to college that they cut him off. Completely. So he now has been couch surfing and in trying to help I was wondering if there is any organization that may offer him some guidance. He is such a nice kid at this point he can't pull together a loan for tuition in a couple days.

His plan B is community college, but he still needs a place to live. He has a part time job but doesn't make nearly enough to survive on. How can his parents do this to him?

So my question , is there an organization I can suggest to him? Is that even a stupid idea? We have 4 kids with oldest going away to college. We don't have much but will help as much as we can. People suck. I just can't believe that this kid is so being impacted by the people that brought him into this world.

You don't say what city you are in but most big cities have an LGBT Center. Google is your (his) friend. He is technically 18 so he may need to just find a job and a room to rent, but he needs support from people like you to keep him from spiraling into depression and possibly suicide.

Hi - I would definitely recommend The Trevor Project, it's a crisis intervention organization for LGBT youth:

crisis line: 1-866-488-7386

Their main focus is suicide prevention - but I would check with them for assistance on places to get help.

Thank you both so very much!

This happen to a friend of my DD's, she came out to her parents right after high school, and they threw her out. She to was headed for college.
What she did was rent a room from another one of their friends parents, they had a very small basement room, she had to put off school for 1 semester, but she got a job, saved some money, and then went to school January, she got lucky and got more money for school, room and a meal plan, when she is not in school she stays with the family that rented her a room.

Does he have any family that might take him in while he figures out what to do. He needs to look on line, there are scolarships for everything under the sun, maybe he could check those out for some help. Call the school and see if there is any help for him there. what about a church to help him find a place to stay or rent or maybe do some yard or chores for room and board.

I will be praying for him.
