We are going to have to purchase a new heat pump and because we have had alot of companies have come and given us prices on a new unit and we have got it down to two and need help with anyone who has either one of these brands. It's down to Carrier or Goodman. We have a Carrier that's over 20 years old and wasn't the size needed for our home and now doesn't work at all and for many reason,we've know for a while we were going to have to get a new heat pump but because of the cost we've been putting it off.So if anyone has any info on either one of these brands give me the good and bad.We can not find anyone giving a rebate except one company that cost why too much for the same thing. We won't get the tax credit either because my husband is disabled and doesn't pay into SS.So, any help would be great. Thanks

OP, my DH is a top-notch, nationally recognized, HVAC professional in our state. He is co-chair of the education department for the heat pump council in our state. He is also the service manager of the oldest AC company in town. I could go on and on about him :rotfl: Honestly, I promise you, purchase the Carrier, you won't be sorry. If my DH had to choose between the two, he would choose the Carrier. He first choice however, over all others, is always a Trane. Your old unit was a Carrier, and it lasted 20 years, that's quite the track record. :thumbsup2

Thanks for your reply. We checked on the Trane and it was the only company that had a rebate, but the price was several thousand dollars higher for the same size to get the rebate and without the rebate it was 2 thousand dollars higher. When we built this house,I always said I didn't think the heat pump was the correct size and I had them come out and check many things and I was always told it was the correct size, but now every company says it's too small (something I always knew). We also have called one company 3 times ( and spoke to a real person, not a voice mail) and told them we wanted them to give us a price, etc and the girl answering the phone always says she see where we've called before and will give the message right them someone and of course no one ever calls. So needless to say,we won't be using them.Seems like alot of places don't care if they sell a new unit or not.One person came and was here less then 2 minutes and just wrote down a price on his company paper and wasn't at all interested in selling us a unit.Again,Thanks for the reply.

Based on Consumer Reports, I would go for the Carrier unit over the Goodman unit. That being said, I would choose the Trane unit above the other two. Goodman equipment has had the most breakdowns and repairs based on Consumer Reports. Good luck!

Maybe you should check the Carrier website, or call them directly and ask them what service company they recommend for your area, they should be able to give you the name(s) of a company that they get good feedback on from customers. Sorry to hear about your frustrations. That's part of the reason my DH company has been around so long...they do whatever it takes, and a salesman would make an appt at ANY time you wanted and show up promptly. I hope it works out, trust me, I know how expensive and frustrating a new unit can be. :hippie:

Like the previous postrers noted, go with Carrier. Avoid Goodman at all costs, the extra $$$ if there is any is well worth the lack of hassles you'll start to have after year 1......

OK,so Goodman is out and I was told by a company that does both Carrier and Payne and some other heat pump that the Payne is made by Carrier, does anyone know if this is true?Has anyone had a Payne?
