However, I don't think a tubal ligation is as risky as some may think. It is minimally invasive- it's outpatient surgery. The worst part is the anesthesia, I guess.[/QUOTE]
Have you thought about having the Essure put in instead?

. I have had GFs who had their tubes tied and I thought their surgery was more invasive than DHs quick procedure. There is a risk any time general anesthesia is administered and all DH had was a valium. This is what we did after we decided not to have any more children. I would have to say it is much easier for your DH (but also agree there is some pain involved--well more soreness then pain). I will admit though, I had them knock me out for the procedure. It is usually done with just a local, but I wasn't comfortable with the Doc chasing me all over the table--lol. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I would talk to DH about the V word again. Some guys just get too freaked out by it though. Guess I don't blame them but childbirth isn't any picnic in the grass either. Why did you sign up for major abdominal surgery when he can get a vasectomy in 10 mins? AGH. This makes me want to jump through the comp. screen. But, obviously to each his own. Good luck.

a very personal choice for you to make, all we can do is share our stories.
I had my tubes done in 2000 the day after I had DS, it was the worst pain I had ever experienced!!!! I have a very high threshold for pain too!
I gave birth twice with no drugs. I would rather give birth than go to that extreme messure. Like the saying goes...if I knew then what I know now.
My sister just had the Essure(SP) done in November. she was in and out within 25 min..
p.s. I was not put to sleep...had an epidural
If anesthesia is your issue, look into the essure procedure. It's permanent too.

Ok, so my husband and I have agreed that we do not want anymore kids and I am having my tubes tied at the end of March. I know I will have to be put under for the surgery. I am a bit scared of that but what I really want to know is will I have much pain and for how long?
Surgery is schedule for a Thursday and I will be able to go back to work on Monday.
Thanks
Donna
I had mine tied a few years ago. Just a warning the pressure for your husband to have surgery instead will not stop here. I was being prepped and they were telling my dh (who I hadn't even married yet) that he should be doing it instead!!
This has always got me thinking about what happens if the couple separates?? The woman then comes into the risk of becoming pregnant again or having to go onto BC again with a new man since she never had her tubes tied while the hubby doesn't have to worry about more kids with the new woman.
While I was in surgery they found a cyst the size of a grapefruit so they really did a "second" surgery. Even so I was only out for about 4 days. Just take that weekend to relax and listen to your body on Monday morning.

Umm, a tubal is NOT major abdominal surgery. It is now done laproscopically and not at all that bad. Had she said she was having a Hysterectomy than i could possibly see such a leap but heck even hysts can be done laproscopically or other ways. And FTR, I had a "major abdominal surgery" and I so do not regret it one bit.![]()
Good post. I think some must have an old concept of the TL surgery. I think I had less than a 1 inch incision for mine.
