OT: Having my tubes tied

My opinion is because they make more money. I just want every woman to be informed properly before making up their mind. I have paid dearly for not being aggressive enough to tell DH to have his procedure done. I am sure he is kicking himself now because of the complications I have had.

I think you are right. :sad2:

I had mine done after my c-section in 2004, so I cannot really tell you how the pain was. While laying on that table I BEGGED for a hysterectomy, but the dr. said he had no medical cause for it at the time and my insurance would not cover it. I never ever had bad cramping periods until after I had my tubaligation. So in 2007 I had the Novasure procedure done and now I am baby and period free!!!! It is SOOOOOOO NICE!!!!

I just had my done on 2/26. I had a very good expirirence. I have not taken any pain meds since day of surgery. No gas pains... yet... :cool1: I was VERY scared about the entire situation, but it was really easy. My worst pain was from my back immediatly following the surgery, but that is from disc problems. My DH would not go under the knife :scared1: Good luck to you, everyone is different.

Oh, I am "Going under the knife" I just wanted to know what I had to look forward too. I thank you for letting me know.

My sister said the worst part was the gas pain. I guess I'll find out soon!!

Hi. I was in your shoes exactly a year ago. :confused3

First I want to ask this -- Are you sure this is what YOU want? (not just your husband)?

I had the same thing done and for the first 6 -9 months I really felt "old" and "dried up" and just not worth a darn all because of my mentality that I could no longer "pro-create". Well here it is a year later and I have now "accepted it". It's fine now.

It really is a cinch to have done though. You'll be ok and don't worry so much about pain. If you have pain they'll give you something for it. I was up and walking around the same day.

Good Luck!

I know this is something I want done. I have a 13 yr old and I DO NOT want anymore kids. I hear "Are you sure?" all the time from everyone in my family. Enough already. Both of my sisters have had it done too. I'm ready to get this done and over with.

I'm having the surgery done on a Thursday and go back to work that Monday. This will give me enough time to rest and see how long I can milk it with my husband. :cool1:

I would like to thank everyone who has sent me positive feedback. :thumbsup2

To all that want to question my choices, I don't know what to say. All I asked was how much pain I might be in. To have people say they want to come and smack me is so uncalled for come on!! :sad2:

I know by posting question on here lets everyone kinda know "your business" but come on with all the mean comments!

I'm still having my surgery done on 3-36-09 and I CAN NOT WAIT!!! :cool1:

Thanks again to all :goodvibes

Keep in mind that some of the people that questioned the decision were not rude, but only bringing up some points to ponder :). I know the posts you are talking about, and yes they were uncalled for! I couldn't believe that one...

Have you thought about having the Essure put in instead?

i had the essure procedure done 3 months ago. i was out that day only. went back to work the very next day. I had some cramping and slight spotting for a couple of days but nothing bad. It was pretty painless, quick, and easy. Good luck.

3-36-09? :lmao: I'm sure that's a typo.

I know there were some uncalled for posts, but for the most part people posted about their own experiences. It's true that having tubes tied can have longer lasting issues than just the immediate pain and it's good to know what those may be before the surgery. Anytime you go under anesthesia there are risks (I work in a hospital and see my share of "routine" procedures). You have made your decision and I wish you all the best. We chose the "other procedure" for DH and that is a personal decision for my family. I wish you speedy recovery

I had the surgery after the birth of my DD almost 17 years ago. I have regretted it every day since. The surgery wasn't bad, they went thru my bellly button. I was actually up and feeling good pretty quick. The problems I have had have been Horrible painful ovulation since then. I have actually sat and watched my stomach swell to where I look six month pregnant. 10 years after the tubal I had to have a hysterectomy. I still have one ovary and I still have horrible pain during ovulation from that ovary. Dr said it was because the egg could not get through the tube and the pain was the process of the egg dying. Don't know just my experience.

Ok, so my husband and I have agreed that we do not want anymore kids and I am having my tubes tied at the end of March. I know I will have to be put under for the surgery. I am a bit scared of that but what I really want to know is will I have much pain and for how long?

Surgery is schedule for a Thursday and I will be able to go back to work on Monday.

Thanks
Donna

Good luck with your surgery. Try not to stress about the anesthesia unless you've had previous problems coming out of it. While there are always risks involved, they are getting really good at performing procedures such as this.

I had my tubes tied (at 27) when my DD was born. It was a health decision though it still broke my heart... we really wanted 3, but I had so many complications we were worried that something would go bad on my end.

Whatever you end up doing, you have the tubal or talking your DH into getting snipped, make sure they give you an anti-inflammatory right away. With my first surgery, all they wanted to give me was pain pills and I was hurting BIG TIME. They told me they could get me something in addition to the pain meds and it was ibuprofen... go figure. They'll help you get on your feet MUCH faster than relying on pain meds.

All the best.

I've never had this procedure so I can't comment on the pain, but I recently had BR reduction and was also terrified of being put to sleep. Well, everything went as planned, and it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. So many of my friends and family told me the risks were too many, but I'm so glad I didnt listen. You'll probably be sore for awhile, but this will pass. Good luck and a speedy recovery. Janice

I just anted to put my two cents. I had my tubes tied 6 years ago they were cut and clamped two inch was taken out of each side. I have three kids I was told at the time would not be safe to have any more kids. My husband said he would get fix but of course there was never time. My ovalation pains were so very bad I would tie a belt around my self to help with the pain. Dec/07 I almost died in my sleep. I had tubal pregnancy that had ruptured. I now only have one tube and ovary Nov/08 I was expecting again this time not in tube. I was told the other tube was fine. Yet my life was at risk . I since than miscarried. I am left with empty felling that can not be filled i mourn for the death of the two babies I will never know. The near death experience that I cant resolve in head. My husband carries this guilt and has taken me disney twice and Maui twice but not even the Mouse could feel the void I feel now. Please think about it they say it is so safe and you think that could never happen to me I was the 1 percent twice in one year. I thought I was doing what was best for my family at the time 3 kids was enough now mourn for the two that I will never take to disney

I had the Essure done in my Dr.'s office back in January. I was awake for the procedure and only had cramping for ONE implant. I never even felt the second.
I didn't even take an ibuprofen after leaving the office. I was up and running the next morning, only a little spotting for a couple days.
I'd choose this over cutting ANYDAY! Check out their web site... also there's a video of the procedure floating around somewhere online.

If you ever wanted to reverse a tubal, most procedures (clamps, cutting...etc) can be reversed, Essure at this point can not be by most doctors. Also make sure you read up on PTLS (Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome). I had mine tied 13 years ago after the birth of my second child. I'm planning on having it reversed this year, and if someone had told me at PTLS at the time, I think I would have really really reconsidered the tubal. Most people just sang the praises of having tubals...better periods, etc and it's been just the opposite.

At the time no one could have told me not to do it though.....everyone said we had the perfect family, 1 boy and 1 girl....bla bla bla. We were both working full time, I was in school and I was DONE having children. Well, now we have 2 biological children and 3 adopted.....so who knows what the future brings. But I'll be using BCP's or some other method to keep from getting pregnant if I don't want another child.

Good luck with what ever you decide....I'm sure you'll be fine through the anesthesia if you've never had a problem before.

The worst part for me was the gas they put in to move all of you adominal organs out of the way. It will hurt in your chest and shoulder area. If you are not aware of it you may think you are having a heart attack.

Good luck with the surgery if you have any questions feel free to ask I will help how I can.

You do realize that the average age of menopause is 52? I had absolutely no desire to be taking the pill for that many years, so my dh had his V about 3 years ago. We have 4 kids and it was the best thing we have ever done for our marriage, now it is just non-stop fun! I honestly think the pill was lowering my s*x drive, now I am giving him a run for his money ;)

Also, reversal for women has a much higher failure rate than reversal for men.

I agree, after all that we go through with pregnancy and birth those men should have to be the ones to do it, it was quick and easy for him!
