I need help with this one. DD has been invited to 2 birthday parties for boys in her class. I only know girl toys! What do 5-6 year old boys play with these days?

Thanks!

I have a 5yo boy, so hopefully I can help you out a bit. He is into legos, just about any kind of action figure, transformers, Star wars. Not a toy...but he always enjoys getting flashlights :confused3

Good luck present hunting! :goodvibes

A second vote for legos. DS is 8 and they are by far a favorite. He still likes playing with cars and trucks. Really likes to see how things work, police and fire trucks. What about a dvd about trucks, police or fire trucks?

DS is 5. Legos are a good choice. He likes star wars and POTC. He got a large, rather detailed coloring book from someone for Christmas of POTC...maybe even one of those Crayola magic sets that only write on the paper...parents would be happy about that I'm sure.

Another vote for legos. Ds10 loved cars and trucks, ds6 has never had any interest (great, we have a thousand hotwheels, of course). Both have never been into Star Wars. Does he have a ds? The only Star Wars item both my boys love is Lego Star Wars DS game. Oh, and they both love nerf guns, and all sports.

You can never go wrong with art supplies. Crayola even makes those neat "Color Explosion" kits in Star Wars and Pirates. Throw in new crayons or washable markers and a sketch pad, and you're set.

Webkinz also seem to be very popular with girls and boys in my DDs kindergarten class. My DD just got FIVE at her birthday party last weekend.:sad2:

My boys love all the action figures. Anything from indiana jones, star wars, hulk, speed racer, power ranger, batman. Superhero costumes are cool too. And they love pirates and Jack Sparrow. Lego sets are great but can be expensive.

Hot wheels is one option.... You can get a simple track that has a loop and jump for about $15... the cars are about $3 each....

My DS7 always liked maze books at that age(not too difficult of a maze, find in walmart/kmart or book store)

If you're in a warm climate, stomp rockets are a huge hit - but you have to be able to play with them outside...

:thumbsup2

Another vote for Legos :) Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the City Lego collections are very popular right now. You can get a set from $5.99 all the way up to $100+ . The stomp rockets are very cool my boys love them, and they do play with them in the house in the winter, they are similar to nerf material so they really can't hurt anything.

Have fun shopping, my motto is Girls have better clothes, but Boys have the best toys!!

If the Lego sets are more than you want to spend try the Bionicles. My boys play with them a lot. Other favorites are action figures, hotwheels, Hess Trucks.

But the one all the boys love to play is army/war. So Guns, rifles, Light Sabers, swords of all types are a HUGE hit. Dress up items for Army are always popular - anything with camo. They all LOVE it. (13 yo loves to be the general and command the littler kids.) A couple of years ago I got Camo vest and hat at Gymboree this was supposed to be for school wear and it became dress up gear for their army battles. Army is such a big game for little boys that when a couple of parents complained to the kindergarten teacher that their kids were playing war at recess that she sent home a very polite note saying it was perfectly natural for boys to do this and basically told them to get over it!

I have DS6. I think boys r hard to buy for even though I have one. He is not into legos or superheros but I would say most of them are. Hotwheel tracks are a good idea. Also we are just starting to get into playing games. He loves things like Sorry and Trouble.

My DS just turned 5.....all he talks about is Star Wars. He had a Star Wars birthday party and got mostly Star Wars toys fro Christmas. He is a bit obsessed at the moment though  . (Oh PLEASE let him get picked for Jedi Training Academy!) ;) Anyway, he also loves anything with Art...legos, blocks, Spongebob and he still loves his Diego toys.
