We are thinking of going to the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in CT. We live very close to Atlantic City but wanted to try something a little different for a short getaway w/o the children.

Any recommendations for nice (deluxe) accomodations or restaurants? Are there even any nice hotels in the area? We know nothing about the area, and I could do some research but would rather hear from people who have experienced it first hand before really digging in. We are thinking of going in March.

Any information is appreciated.
Thank you!!

We have stayed at the Two Trees Inn (I think that's the name) right at Foxwoods and it is very nice but it is not in the same building as the casino so you have to take a shuttle across the street. There are two other hotels right at the casino. From what I can remember when doing my research there are no other hotels too close by.

Both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun have beautiful hotels attached to the casinos. I like Mohegan better, but both are really nice. There are many nice hotels in the Mystic CT area which is nearby.

I would stay on site at the hotel. They have a beautiful facility. There are several inns/hotels and B&B close by as well. The restaurants in the casino are excellent. We go often just for a night out with the adults. Enjoy your trip.

We are 15 minutes from both the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos. There are no major hotels in the immediate area and the casinos want it that way. They both have great hotels but, you are going to pay for it. For what they have to offer if you are into what they have it's a very nice stay.

Thank you. We have not considered Mohegan Sun. Any other comments about that?

Hello...fireman17's DW here! We have visited both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods numerous times for various events (concerts, dinners, Bingo, etc.). Personally, we both prefer Mohegan Sun for a number of reasons.

* It is easier to get in and out of and we don't feel as though we have entered this huge complex and you can get to where you want to be rather quickly and easily. Foxwoods feels gargantuan in size and it seems to be quite a haul to get to the restaurants, theaters, etc. from the parking areas. We usually use the self-parking garages at Mohegan Sun, but choose outdoor rooftop parking at Foxwoods.

* Mohegan Sun has the cool shopping mall that has "real" shops, unlike Foxwoods that have shops focused around the culture of the indians. (Nothing against that, but we prefer more of a variety.)

* Restaurant choices and buffet seems better at Mohegan Sun.

* We enjoy the "Wolf Den" for the free bar/live entertainment offerings.

Good luck and enjoy! :wave2:

My boyfriend and I also prefer Mohegan Sun. We usually go on weekends so the hotel is a bit $$$. We stay at the Microtel in Uncasville which is a 2 minute drive to the casino. They also have shuttles. But sometimes, you can get a good deal at the Mohegan Sun hotel. I stayed there once and it was really nice.

I really enjoy the restaurants and stores at Mohegan. And the smoke-free casino is my favorite spot.

If you want deluxe, the Mohegan hotel is the way to go! They also have a really nice spa if you want to pamper yourself. :)
