OT: for the coffee snobs- Keurig or Tassimo Brewbot?

I just bought DBF a Keurig for Valentine's Day - he's a coffee snob and loves it. His old favorite coffee maker hit retirement as soon as the Keurig came in the house. I don't drink coffee, but I've started drinking a lot more tea since we got it - I can use either my own leaves, my own tea bags, or Keurig's, so green tea flows freely in this house now.

He says it tastes like coffee-house coffee - I wouldn't know, but it probably won't be trumped for quite awhile (also, I bought him the filter that he can put his own coffee in; so no giving up his favorites!).

DH works for a large home products retailer that carries both Tassimo and Keurig. He hears about new items, etc before others. He was told that Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks have both just signed agreements to start producing K cups for Keurig machines (previously, Starbucks was exclusive to Tassimo pods). Might help you decide on one machine over the other.

DH has a Keurig and loves it, but thinks the newest Tassimo is pretty nice, too. He prefers the available K cups to Tassimo.

AWESOME!! I have a Keurig Platinum machine and I love it. It always bugged me that Starbucks was exclusive to Tassimo (I'm a Starbuck gold card holder) so this is pretty sweet news for me.

One warning though, my mom and brother both bought Keurig machines at Costco and both broke within a few weeks. Apparently Costco was carrying a specific model that had issues. Luckily, Keurig is very understanding and will just ship you a brand new machine. I got mine at Bed Bath & Beyond (with a 20% off coupon) and it's been working great for over a year.

If you are a true coffee snob, you want a french press and freshly ground beans. ;) much cheaper, too.

Interesting side note ... sort of ... from an article in USA Today Money section. Green Mountain Coffer Roasters (GMCR is ticker symbol) is going to offer Starbucks Coffee (Starbucks announced) to brew with the Kuerig. I would have thought they were competitors.

The article indicated the GMCR stock price has risen 80% this year already. On March 9th the stock price closed at 43.64 and the closing price on March 10th was 61.71, up $18.07 from the previous days close. :scared1: Checking the history, GMCR stock has split twice since 2009. June 9th 2009 split 3:2 and May 18th 2010 3:1.

I'm not suggesting this as a stock tip or solicitation to buy, I just found the article interesting.

I agree 100%. I was going to say something similar but I feared being flamed to death. :lmao: So I'll ride on the coattails of someone who has a lot more cache around here. :thumbsup2

A true coffee snob wouldn't use either of these machines as their main source of coffee at home. Their collection instead would feature a French Press, burr grinder and any number of manual espresso machines, for example.

That said, I make coffee at home with a stovetop Moka, and yes, a Keurig. :thumbsup2

I never said *I* was a coffee snob. :)

Oh I do. I work from home two to three days a week. The single cup machine is for my afternoon cup of coffee when I want them and days when I have to leave the house early for a meeting.

Hot chocolate for the kids is a bonus too.

Gotcha. My point was that the new machines are just updated coffee pots.

I have both and like the Keurig better. However, I only use them during the week in the mornings for convenience. Weekends or days off its the french press.

What if you have all three. French press, Moka, and Keurig in the house for us.

I have the Keurig and love it! I'm excited to hear that dunkin' donuts will offer k-cups. Does anyone know when this is going to happen?

I love our Keurig, I also have a press pot that I enjoy. I use a burr grinder and grind beans daily to use in the Keurig reusable filter.

I also keep K-cups around for the variety when friends are over.

We just switched to Keurig from a Dolce Gusto. The sheer number of k-cups and options is why we switched and that it makes a perfect cup of coffee everytime. Soo love my keurig. Its well worth it.

According to the Keurig web site; "this summer".

^ Just keep in mind the coffee they serve at DD is NOT the same as the "Dunkin' Donuts Coffee" sold in grocery stores. ( DD sold the rights to their name and image to a separate company - kinda weasely if you ask me  )

Whether this will be true for the K-cups as well I do not know.
