My company has made arrangements for me, for a flight out of Orlando to Indiana on an airline named American Trans Air. I have never heard of this airline. Has anyone had any experience flying with them?

Is it similar to those little SW planes? :sad2:

Go to www.ata.com. They've had some financial difficulties lately and sold much of their Chicago Midway operation to Southwest Airlines. They've also instituted a codeshare arrangement with Southwest recently.

Little SW planes? Southwest flies 737's, not what I would call a little plane (I guess it is compared to a 747 or 777). ATA flies 737's and 757's. Heck, Southwest flies bigger planes (737) out of my airport than American, Continental and Delta (Regional Jets).

We have used them out of Dayton to MCO and had no problems, except the last leg of the flight down was over booked-but that too was handled, just make sure you have a copy of your seat/reservation ticket. They take one before you board. Also have many friends who fly Air Tran out of Dayton-much cheaper than Cincinnati!

ATA doesn't fly out of Dayton. I think you're referring to AirTran, not American Trans Air (ATA).

I flew on ATA from Flint to Orlando in Feb. of this year. That was right at the time they were restructuring and working out their arrangements with Southwest. So our flight times and connecting airports changed again and again and again... :guilty: I spent an unbelievable amount of time on hold trying to get it all straightened out, since there were some unusual glitches that came up as our itinerary kept changing.

But the flights themselves went just fine, and service was generally very good. I would consider flying with them again if a good deal came up, but I heard that ATA pulled out of Flint recently.

We are frequent ATA passengers - have always received great service, routes and prices. Hoping their financial difficulties get worked out. We're flying on them in late November.

My BIL used to be a flight attendant for ATA. They are a big airline, use full-sized planes, etc. A lot of their business comes from charters and contract work- they used to fly government troops, etc. Maybe that's why you haven't heard much about them. Rest assured, they are a *major* airline, even if you don't know their name!
