I'm an open door kind of girl (unless there are others in the house) but DH is strictly a closed door type. We have our bathroom connected to our bedroom as well as the hall. When he goes up, he has to close both doors...like anyone is going up with him! Me OTOH, I have to have company...DS6 comes in every single time and DS10 would be happy to join him if I didn't stop him. At his age, he can wait outside.
And both my boys are open door types too. Don't care at all. I'm sure DH is thrilled with that!
Oh, and I'll definitely talk with my mom while she's in there too!
I leave it half open. I have 2 DD's and when they were babies, i kept it open so that i could hear them, etc. Then as they started to grow when i left the door open, they rarely came in and when i did close the door, they would bang on the door. So i decided to leave it half open. Their dad used to keep it half open when they were babies, but now he closes it.
I didn't realize other people left their bathroom doors open. I guess I"m not odd afterall
I grew up a closed door girl but now that I own my own house and live alone, I leave the door open. If I don't the cats get very mad. I do close the door when I have company and have forgot once or twice, very embarrassing.
Closed door--always! From the time I was old enough to take care of personal necessities, my parents encouraged closing the bathroom door. Even the bedroom door, if changing clothes. I'm solo now and still do it!
its always always door closed when people are here (its me/18 mom, dad, brother/16 and DBF) and if everyones home its door closed, but usually during the day im the only one home so i get excited that i have the liberty to leave the door open if i want! haha
added: when its just me and DBF i leave the door open and he frequently finds when im in the bathroom, its the PERFECT time to shave or something, i swear as soon as I sit, he has a light go on in his head thats like "OH SHES PEEING, TIME TO SHAVE!"
Open door people here, but I have to be careful, my front door is aligned with the bathroom, so I have to close it somewhat.
I have to be able to hear the kids, be aware of what is going on while I am in there. Besides, even when I do shut it my daughter will open it anyway or the cat with freak me out by turning the handle (seriously freaky, the first time he did it I honestly thought my house was haunted!)
More often than not I will joined by a dog, cat and at least one kid.
mostly closed door here, but DS will walk in on anyone (including Grama, she now knows to lock it too!). DD would come in and talk to me if I would let her, she won't let me in while she is in there so it's only fair that I don't let her in. DH should lock it, that's the only time I can actually stop him long enough to discuss important stuff.
We definitely have an open door policy here. The funny thing is, in the house we lived in prior to our current one, we completely gutted and remodeled our bathroom. Somehow, DH never got around to putting up the door and it used to drive me nuts. When we bought this house, everyone joked about us now having a bathroom door. Funny that we never use it!
For the OP, I have an even worse story to make you feel better. I was using the facilites at my in-laws WITH the door closed and my FIL walked in on me. Give me 4 11-year olds any day!
I usually close the door and lock it no matter what I'm doing in there. DH closes the door for #2 but tends to leave it open for #1, which is getting to be a big no-no with a curious 4½-year-old GIRL wandering around. DD leaves the door open no matter what she's doing.
