OT: Elf Capades 2009..... post your ideas/past elf pranks here! :o)

I've looked at target twice this week for those houses with no luck, but now I'm on a mission to find them. We picked up a reindeer at CVS for 4.99. Santa will be sending her this year since we have a new puppy to watch over too.

I looked for them at my Target also with no luck. I was so disappointed. But I didn't notice that the original post said they were for pets, so I will try going back and digging through the little doggie outfits.

As a side note, I did get a couple of the doggie outfits for my dd's stuffed animals. Really cute and cheaper than Build a Bear!

Our Target didn't have the gingerbread houses, either. :sad2:

I found a few cute candies at Target, though...in the Christmas candy aisle. They had miniature candy canes (Willy Wonka, I think), Peppermint Junior Mints, and games made of chocolate - like Scrabble, Clue, Trivial Pursuit.

My target didn't have the tents either I was SO bummed this is SO SO cute:(

I have to get going on writing my letter. I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week! I have to get the santa letter ready so the kids know Jingles is coming next Friday!!!!!

DD attended party near another Target in our area on Monday- I snuck out to check for tents and they had igloos but no gingerbread! They were with the pet items in the $2.50 section. I'm still holding out a gingerbread house.

Funny side note:
I told my kids that our town had been ranked one of the America's naughtiest cities this year & when questioned I just stated I was unsure who reported on it- but probaby Newsweek since they love to make lists. As a result, Santa would be sending out Elves to host families in the area starting sometime after Thanksgiving. The elves would hang around and check on neighborhood children until Christmas Eve. WELL... Yesterday, DS9 told a friends DD8 at carpool about this and she was waaay excited about the elves coming to town. Now I get to explain this to her mom- LOL! Thankfully this mom is a lot of fun and will probably join in so I'll offer to find her some elves if she sounds keen on it.
AND YES- ALL these kiddos KNOW this is make believe but they are playing along anyway, it's just too fun to pass up. These kids have been raised on Harry Potter, Narnia, Artemis Fowl, Percy Jackson, & Twilight... at home, their imaginations are greater than their cool factor is. DS12 is totally psyched even though he pretends not to be (his words).

So I told my hubby that I thought some elves may visit..he was like No way...you are not doing that crazy thing. I showed him the website about it all and he still was like no No NO!
I said you wont have to do anything, I will do it all. He still said its silly and no. Hmm maybe its silly cause the Elf will be reporting Daddy to Santa....Grrrr....LOL

So is there anyone here who had the trouble with the other adult figure in the house and how did you get past it. I was already in my mind planning the vacations Santa would allow..like a few days for the kids birthdays, a day for easter and valentines day cause they will also be helping out the Easter bunny and cupid by reporting who was naughty and nondeserving of the candy making that cupid and Mr Bunny have done, emails from the "elves" with pics of them at different places...my sister did a flat stanley once so I know if I ship him to her she will get some cool pics of them. Maybe emails saying I caught you doing this when you werent looking...ect. Daddy is so unreceptive to this.
Any ideas cause I already found the elves I want...LOL...I should just do it anyone and let the Bah-humbug be a grump.

My husband thought I was hiring a real "little" person to act as an elf to live at our house!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

I'm gonna just do it...and I'm sure he'll just play along once he sees DD3 get excited about it!

My husband was a skeptic last year. Our kiddo is really practical and he thought for sure that she wouldn't be fooled. Well, she is already talking about Missy's visit this year. The other night over dinner she started telling him about when she 'thinks' the elf will arrive, etc., and DH looked at me and said, "You just think you are SOOOOooo smart, don't you?" :lmao: Why, yes, yes I do! ;)

My DH was skeptical about it last year, but once he saw how much fun the kids were having with it he got on board. He even yelled at them for moving the Elf to the top of the TV cabinet, which they know they are not allowed to climb on. Then DD7 at the time was convinced it was real cuz none of the kids moved him. He moved on his own. I keep reminding them that they need to write a letter to Santa to ask him to send the elf again.

My dh isn't grumpy about it. He thinks I'm a little nuts, though. ;)

Honestly, it's not that expensive. You can buy an inexpensive elf, and just have him/her drop candy, letters - little things.

I hope you are able to do it because it really is a lot of fun. As a matter of fact, I probably have more fun than the kids!

I found a few elves..I say a few, as I need three.(that way they can take the magic along with their own kids as grownups with a "trusted" elf) I am going to do it. Not sure how mischeivious they will be. I guess that will come with time. So I am just trying to get my head in the game..LOL
We leave for Disney on Thursday..kinda thinking I should hold off til we get back before IU buy them. Dont wanna spend my Disney money ;)

Our kids were very excited to see that their elves returned this morning. We'd put up the trees in the kid's rooms last night. Donnie, George and Marta returned this morning and brought ornaments for the trees.

I LOVED the elves at Homegoods!!! They were bendable and only $10!
And elf mischief can be done for free....

I am going to do this for the first time this year. So excited, my DS6 will love it, I'm sure. Probably going to introduce the elf after Thanksgiving. However, we will be at WDW from 12/5-12/12. Do I bring him with us? How have any of you handled this? Will be hard to do things with the elf with us all in the same hotel room! Advice would be appreciated!!

Well my ideas for elf mischeif were not planned to be costly. My plans after reading through some of the great ideas posted were..
make a toothpaste tree on my bathroom mirror and leave toothbrushes with a note from Santa saying "The elves told me you are not spending enough time on tooth-brushing...get to scrubbin!"
Maybe some flour on the kitchen table with snow angel shapes in it with the ingredients for cookies and a note saying Santa is looking forward to your cookies this year!
Not bad mischeif....just fun stuff.
Maybe a Friday morning will get the elves with some popcorn and a christmas movie in hand and a note that says relax and enjoy......

We have had a rough few years..my youngest passed away and her birthday is a few weeks before christmas(Dec 7th)...I am trying to get the magic back.
That said I have a request...does anyone know of a place where we can get the story behind the Elf on a shelf online..no book purchase? I am trying to get the idea across with a cheaper version of the elf.....

On a side note..hubby says he thinks that this will take away from the day....hello since when is it about GIFTS???? Ugh...the bah humbug stole my thunder and my magic....LOL

We introduced our elf "Jolly" last year and the kids loved him but I didn't have him do any mischief. I guess I don't have the energy for all that! LOL

I love reading your ideas though!

I am new to this whole idea, but I'm loving it!:goodvibes I already have an Elf that I recieved as a gift as a child, it's poseable and I think it would work great. However my DS5 has already seen it. Anyone have an idea how I could re-introduce the Elf as magic??:confused3

I was kind of thinking I'd leave the Elf out with a note from Santa saying that he gave the Elf magic powers that will expire on Christmas Eve.....

HELP HELP HELP!!!

Ok my daughter is sooo excited.. Santa sent her a letter telling her about Frankie the Elf and how he is going to "Fly in from the North Pole soon" so any ideas on how Frankie can FLY IN... something cool - and kinda dramatic... but remember its me doing this... LOL... She is so excited about an elf coming to live with her... Santa had a picture of Frankie and everything... last night as were were driving to girl scouts she was looking for him and saw him run across the road... LOL... :) this is going to be aweseom but I need some help on how to introduce Frankie to our house - something COOL to seem more realistic

Thanks
