OT: Elf Capades 2009..... post your ideas/past elf pranks here! :o)

Since your elves come to life only at night, do you move them during the daytime. For example, if the kids wake up to find the elf playing candyland on the table or floor, do you put it all away and move the elf to a spot for the day? And no playing with the elves, right, so how do you explain that? (I forget what I did last year)

You can do this however please you. I will clean up messes each day unless it is something that can be left up and the kids can move the elf to a designated location each night. I do not mind kids messing with the elves during the day as long as they do not go MIA.

forgive me for not reading the whole thread... I have to pick up kids pretty soon.

What are your elves... are they like a beanie baby? do the kids actually see them or are they make believe and never seen? this is a fun idea but I am not sure how you are doing this. Also I am guessing your 8-9 year olds and above know this is just a fun Christmas game or not? My daughter (9) informed me last week she knows who Santa is, so I could not see her falling for this.

They very... Our set is about the size of a barbie doll, plush and bendable.
Yes, MOST kids know it is a game mom and dad are playing with them but just like santa- it remains unspoken!

We are doing Elf on a Shelf for the first time this year with my Grandson (4 years old) and my daughter & I can't wait to get started! We will probably start Dec. 1st- but I do have a question for those of you who do the "elf peeing green" - what do you use to make the water green and does it stain your toilets?

Can't wait to start this- how should we introduce the elf?

I've never done it, but I think a PP mentioned they use green food coloring.

I was addicted to this thread last year & I'm just SO excited to see it again so soon!! :)

I let DD play with the elf during the day. She's big & plush so it's hard to resist...BUT every night before she goes to bed she has to put Flickers to bed under the tree (so I know where to find her LOL). Then I set her up in some fun way w/ a little gift (piece of candy or inexpensive item) IF and only if DD was WONDERFULLY behaved that day. Sometimes it's a gift from Santa brought back from the North Pole as a reward.

I think she may come a week or 2 after Thanksgiving this year...I'm not quite ready yet. LOL

This year is our third year with Elfie, My kids are already talking about him!! my older 2 love to help hide him the younger two are 8 and 6. The first year he showed up he wasnt into mischief he was in a different spot every day, last year he was very naughty LOL. Love this thread it has a lot of new ideas for Elfie this year!!

I stumbled upon this thread and am so very glad I did! I have officially decided to jump on the elf bandwagon, so thank you!
I'm not going to splurge on the book and elf, but I will come up with my own elf....I'll check out Dollar Tree first.
It would awesome if our library had the book!

At any rate, I can't wait to try all of your great ideas and share some of my own. :yay:

Hope you guys don't mind if I share some pictures of things Jingles did last year... I got a lot of great surprises from Target's dollar section as well as Micheal's. Last year after christmas I stocked up on little holiday surprises on GREAT sale. I have to look through them soon to figure out what Jingles will do to present them.

Jingles comes the day after thanksgiving. A week before that Santa wrote the kids (my niece and nephew who visit several times a week) letting them know about Jingles and sent along a personalized book as well (made in publisher) about Jingles' story.

That's what Jingles came in

The kids had been a bit unsure about him since the letter from Santa but he came baring gifts so they quickly loved him LOL!

This is where jingles lives while at my house. He can kind of watch what the kids are doing all day. That bag is what the treats are usually in.. or a little note to the kids.

He had a few other adventures but for some reason that's all I took photos of. I swear I had photos of everything but... Jingles luckily didn't make big messes... and since the kids are over 3 days a week I didn't have to come up with too much. I really missed him when he went back to the north pole.

I'd LOVE to make a facebook page for Jingles!!!

OMG Love those pics!! Too funny!! I'm going to get one too! Is there a special letter ya'll put in the Elf box for when they open him?

We are going to give this I try!! I am headed to B&N this weekend to try to find one!

I was able to get mine, last year, from Carleton Cards before X-mas (it probably was even before Thanksgiving, but I can't be sure). It was marked 50% off-so I paid $20 for it. Our elf came in a nice box with the elf and a book.

HTH someone!

Think I may have to do this this year - everyone has some really cute ideas!

I did write a letter.. I rolled it like a scroll and printed it on Xmas paper... I can't seem to find it on my computer though *pout*.. I'll check my home computer to see:)

I would really like to see what you wrote in the letter! i got the set today and can't wait to start! So excited!

We got ours at elfmagic.com. It came with the letter, a storage pouch (we call that a sleeping bag ;) ) and magical snowflakes.

OMG this sounds awesome.......... I so have to do this for my daughter shes 5 and I think the prefect age for this...

I found a seller on ebay that makes them and will personalize the letter, it comes out cheaper than the shelf or Elf Magic ones. I'm going to order, I think the kids are going to love it!!
