OT: Elf Capades 2009..... post your ideas/past elf pranks here! :o)

HELP HELP HELP!!!

Ok my daughter is sooo excited.. Santa sent her a letter telling her about Frankie the Elf and how he is going to "Fly in from the North Pole soon" so any ideas on how Frankie can FLY IN... something cool - and kinda dramatic... but remember its me doing this... LOL... She is so excited about an elf coming to live with her... Santa had a picture of Frankie and everything... last night as were were driving to girl scouts she was looking for him and saw him run across the road... LOL... :) this is going to be aweseom but I need some help on how to introduce Frankie to our house - something COOL to seem more realistic

Thanks

Maybe you could buy some small snowflakes confetti and sprinkle them on the floor to make it look like the elf dropped them as he/she flew in. Have the snowflakes stop where you land the elf.

When Olaf arrived at my house last year (I'm the grandmom), he came in a beautiful Xmas fabric covered box I found at Big Lots. That way his little journal and letter from Santa was all tucked inside with him and DGrD put him back in the box and left him under the tree on Xmas eve so Santa could pick him back up.
When he arrived, I placed the box 1/2 in 1/2 out of the fireplace, with the glass doors and screening 'blown open' as if Santa had dropped him down the chimney. I like the idea of leaving a few snowflakes or maybe fake snow around him this year.
DGrD(6) is already asking me if I think Olaf will return this year or if Santa will send a 'girl' elf. I'm sticking with Olaf- he was great fun:thumbsup2 Of course I only have to do this a couple of days a week when she comes over after school or sleeps over - you full time elfers have your hands full!
Don't think I've seen this one posted - one day we found him on the counter surrounded by marshmallow and toothpick snowmen he had made - he was missing the north pole. He showed up at DGrDs house a few times, too - I would have to call her in the morning and ask if she would look for him as I couldn't find him at my house - DD would hide him in the tree or among her toys - so she thought he was keeping his eye on her there, too. Just remembering makes me smile!

FYI Micheals Craft Center.. I just went during my lunch break and they have these really realistic looking elves on sale for $12!!! If Jingles weren't already known and loved I'd have LOVED to have one of these guys!

Ok- what are your arrival plans for your elf. Our elf is Elfie. Was thinking of having him arrive with Thanksgiving sugar cookies the day after Thanksgiving. Anyone have any ideas that are more fun??

Love this thread! Our elves and reindeer (one girl elf, one boy elf, and one baby reindeer) will be arriving on November 30th. Right now I'm planning on them arriving via "Santa" mail - which would be right in front of our fireplace while the kids are at school.

They have to come that day because their 1st night of antics is going to involve them bringing Chocolate Advent calenders.

Can't wait to see what everyone else is doing!

I'm making our Elf out of a doll body from a craft store, some red and white striped fabric, green felt, and jingle bells. $5.24 total. (I loved the idea, but didn't want to spend $30 on an elf...gotta save those $$ for Disney in January!):goodvibes:

My almost 5yo DD wrote a letter to Santa asking to adopt one of his elves. So, the elf will arrive in a box (maybe with some fake snow?) after Thanksgiving, straight from the North Pole.

I'm loving the ideas on here. Others I've heard of are making a potato pyramid, turning all of the furniture upside down, stringing the toilet paper from the shower rod instead of the toilet paper holder, getting out all of the pots and pans.

So I just told DH that an elf was coming to stay with us. TALK ABOUT HILARIOUS! He had no clue what I was talking about...

Me: I'm so excited! We're gonna have an elf come stay through the holidays with us!
DH: What?
Me: An elf!
DH: Where is he going to stay?
Me: In a sleeping bag...
DH -blank, speechless face-
Me: The whole family is going to have elves this year!
DH: Amanda, you know I am scared of midgets!

ROFL! I know that's not politically correct but he thought I was going to hire a "little person" to come live with us to be an "elf"!

My DH was even more clueless. Here is how it started out when I was describing the concept of the "Elf on the Shelf."

Me- You buy an elf and...
DH-What do you mean "an elf?"...
Me- A stuffed elf...
DH-Stuffed with what?...
HE THOUGHT I MEANT STUFFING LIKE THANKSGIVING TURKEY STUFFING!!!

And people wonder why I only have one child! :rotfl2:

Ok what about if oyu tied a helium balloon to him and put him outside with it ited to his waist. Than you can write a note from Santa saying something like " I hope Frankie reaches you safely. Santa is very busy this year and had to make sure Frankie got to you. I wish elves could fly like Tinkerbelle....."

My kids love Tink..they would totally buy into that one..LOL

I'm so excited....I went to Target today and found 2 of the little pop-up tents. I got the gingerbread one for our elves and I also got a pink one for dd's stuffed animals. I had looked at this same target last week and there were none. When I found them today, there were only the 2. Really cute for our elves to sleep in while they are here!

Our elf is named Simon and my daughters elves are named Jack and Jill and they have their own facebook pages so people can follow their adventures , I know that you are not supposed to handle the elves but our elves are wild and kinda rogue and they love hanging out with the kids, next week they are coming to Wisconsin Dells with us and who knows what kind of trouble they will get into up there. If you would like you can follow our elves on facebook just search for Jack Jill and also Simon Geffers.

I don't know if this was discussed in any of the many elf threads, so I will post it here. I have been thinking about my 6 year old dd going to school and telling the other kids that we have elves. The other kids of course will not have elves.

How have you handled questions about why we are the only ones with elves, or worse, the other kids teasing your child about this?

I have thought about this for the current year after last year..... My DDs are now in 4th and 1st grade, both wholeheartedly believing in everything still. Last year, my older DD couldn't wait to tell everyone @ school about Charlie's pranks from the night before even though I asked her not to talk about it at school for fear of someone picking on her. She had some kids telling her that elves can't come to life, no such thing, blah, blah, blah..... I know 4th grade the teasing would be brutal  So, I've decided to draft a letter from Santa to arrive with Charlie saying that there is a huge shortage of elves at the North Pole right now and Santa needs as many as possible to stay with him to make toys... therefore, he can only send out a limited# of elves this year. He'll go on to ask the girls to promise not to tell anyone at school or the elves' magic will disappear and they will return to the North Pole...

Hoping it works. I just can't bear to have my 9 year old teased for still being one of the few still believing.....

Each night Elvin "does" something. The girls jump up every morning to see what Elvin has done.

They might find him in the cupboard looking for snacks. (He stacks cans to make stairs and knocks boxes onto the floor.)
They have found him in the TV room watching a movie.
He and other stuffed toys/dolls are at the table playing a game.
He has sent pizzas to our house.
He has taken the unmatched socks from our laundry room and decorated the Christmas tree.
He has tried stringing lights in the house, but usually manages to get tangled in them.
He has cut out paper snowflakes and left them around the house.
He "eaten" leftover Halloween candy.
He has baked cookies or made Krispy treats.
If we get any boxes with Styrofoam, he can be found playing in it.
He has been found on the computer.

He returns home with Santa every Christmas Eve. One of the gifts from Santa is marked "From Elvin." The girls love that he has made them each a gift. The night before Christmas Eve (23rd), there is always a party. When the girls get up on Christmas Eve, they find Elvin and their stuffed dolls in a frozen party scene. There is crepe paper hanging from the ceiling, drink cups and snack bowls everywhere, balloons on the floor, etc.

This sounds like WAY too much fun. I have a DD15 and DS9 and even tho they're a little older, I believe they'll still have a great time with this. I can't wait to find an elf somewhere and start this fiasco!!

I'll definitely be making a photo book of THIS one.
:thumbsup2

I don't think ANY age is too old. I do this for my niece and nephew and heck.. even my mom and sister get excited to see what Jingles will do next!

Does anyone have a copy of the letter from Santa they used? I have an elf already. Thanks in advance!!!
