Yep, way off topic! I am upgrading our small round 4 person kitchen table to a regular size table with 6 chairs that has a hide away drop leaf. It is going to be a few hundred more than I thought (I had no idea tables and chairs were so pricey!)

With my current table, I always keep a table cloth and placemats on it - nothing fancy, just kid friendly and prevents scratching on the table.

Do you use a table cloth on your everyday table? I worry about the new table getting scratched/ruined but I also don't want to hide the pretty new table under a table cloth

The economy is going to be happy with me in the next couple of months. I bought a new living room set yesterday, new table for the kitchen and a new computer desk will be in a few weeks!

I don't use a table cloth, but our table is about 40 years old (a "sort of" family heirloom - I think it was a wedding gift to my in-laws and they passed it on to us and are getting something new {MIL doesn't like Jacobean style furniture}) and it is only DH & I - no kids. I use coasters for drinks and placemats when we eat, but take them off the table between meals.

We almost always eat on the table top. Sometimes I will put on placemats for decoration or a festive table cloth for certain holidays.

If the table is made of hardwood it will not scratch.

I do just because I found a really cute one. I have longaberger placemats in botanical field pattern and found a tablecloth the other day called wicker...kinda looks like the weave of a wicker basket. It looks so cute together and for only $4, I couldn't resist.

I have a daughter as well so I figured it would protect my table from scratches and what not.

I prefer not to use one since the table is oak made by the Amish in Lancaster, Pa. opened up all the way its 110" long.

Your making me jealous. I LOVE Amish Furniture.

I have end tables, a coffee table, and my lazy susan from Peaceful Valley in Intercourse, PA. I'm going today to price and measure the hutch I want. After the hutch will be the dining set...someday anyway!

Our home is full of Amish and Mennonite made furniture. I had an Amish place near the Rockvale Square custom make my two hutches and table. The chairs came from a place in MD.

Where near Rockvale? There is a Peaceful Valley in Strasburg, which isn't far from there. I get into trouble in that store!

We have the table uncovered and throw an inexpensive table cloth over it when we eat. . .

I put a craft mat (thick vinyl top/soft bottom, used under table cloths) on the table for homework, crafts etc... Kid's can paint, draw, cut etc on it and I don't care. Sometimes I leave it on for everyday if no one is coming over. It is plain white but looks lived in with the kids. I pull it off and use place mats for company of if the kids aren't home and I can't enjoy a clean house for more than 15 minutes! :rotfl:
DH had a heart attack at how much he paid for the table and chairs.

If is off of Rockvale road (how the outlets got their name) and is located on Gridley road. If you are going north is will be a barn on the left side about half way up the road.

I never use a tablecloth on our wood dining table....just put placemats down for each meal (helps the kids with clean-up and there's no table cloth for me to wash after each meal). Plus, I also don't like to hide my pretty wood table! :goodvibes

I always use a table cloth, and it is a vinyl one at that. When we first got our dining room table my ds put a scratch on it almost immediately, so now I keep it and the kitchen table covered with a vinyl cloth. Unless company (mother in law) comes over. Years ago my MIL came over and I didn't know she was coming and she was horrified at my vinyl tablecloth. She is also horrified if she sees someone drink from a soda can instead of pouring it into a glass.

If you don't want to cover up your pretty new table with a table cloth, you could always have a piece of glass cut to fit the top of it. We did this with our new breakfast table a couple of years ago, and I am so happy with it. I measured the top of the table, called a local custom glass cutting place, and ordered a piece of glass, 1/4" thick to cover the top. If I remember correctly, it ended up costing about $70. It cleans up so easily (Windex and paper towels). My son can play with Play Doh right on the glass, and do all kinds of other messy things without worry. The best part is that I still get to enjoy the pretty table underneath :)

table cloth ? would'nt you have to have a table to use one ? :rotfl2:

When we moved into our new house I got rid of our table, we use our kitchen island, but most of the time we use the couches :rotfl:

My mother can't believe that we do not have a table, the good thing is that I am never asked to host a holiday :)

In all honesty I do not cook, we eat out or get take out on average 4 nights a week.

We use cloth place mats that I leave down all the time. When they get dirty I throw them in the wash and put a different set out. Enjoy your new purchases!

We do not use a table cloth except in the Dinning Room. In the Kitchen I find that my DS gets caught up in it and pulls it off the table etc...... We made an intentional choice to get an inexpensive table in the kitchen while we have young kids. It was a last item at Sams and it was $100 for the table and chairs. If my kid scratches it with a knife or fork I get over it. He knows how to be careful though too--he is not just allowed to treat it like a piece of junk. It has actually held up very well and were are on year 4 and it still looks good.

I just got a new high top pub style wooden table a couple of months ago. It is gorgeous but I miss my formica top. I couldn't find one big enough to accomodate. I could only find a formica top in four chairs. So, I bought the pretty high top table. I leave the wood showing during the day but when we eat I put a table cloth down on it. I wouldn't want water stains or heat marks on it. The formica top was so easy. I could even put a boiling pot of water down without any consequences. But, I figured it was time to give it up when you would never knew if one of the kids fell on the floor because the cushion broke off.:confused3

Yes on my dining room table, but it's rarely eaten at....just holds everyone's junk:rolleyes1 No on my kitchen table. We use placemats that I wash 2-3 times a week, depending on what we've eaten. If it's got red sauce, they go right into the wash...:rotfl:

I must be really bad~I use a tablecloth and I put plastic ontop of it so the tablecloth doesn't get dirty all the time. (Its okay to laugh at me even my friends do)
