Just checked online at delta.com to see what the going rate for a round trip nonstop ticket form boston to orlando and I had to call Delta because I thought there had to be some kind of glitch in the system but NO the quoted price is correct - Leaving in the am on dec 3rd and returning mid afternoon on dec 10th the price per person (ONE PERSON) was over $1,000!!!!

I purchased 6 RTNS tickets for Julys trip and all together for 6!!! was under $1,000. They said if I left later and didn't mind a stop it would be around $240/person - but it means traveling the whole day! YUK!!!

Needless to say I am now looking into other airports and airlines!

I had the same thing happen to me with US Airways - try another airline or try to book it closer to your date of departure.

yasuern,

I just checked flying out of Hartford/Springfield and got pretty much the same info. Non-stop flights ranged from around $650 - $1,000! That is just crazy!!! The only "deal" was a stop over in Atlanta on the way down and then non-stop home BUT the arrival to Atlanta and departure to MCO time were only about 45 minutes apart. A disaster in the making for sure.

It's just lunacy! I'll be checking with my travel agent next week to see what they think the future holds!

I would imagine they're going to do anything to stay afloat for as long as they can now.

Did you try Jet Blue?

I am not sure but I think that the prices have to do with gas prices...not what they are now but what they might be. I think the airlines lost a lot of money selling cheap airfare in advance but then the gas prices increased dramaticaly at the time of the flight. I am sure as the date gets closer the price will drop considerably.

To the best of my knowledge...Delta is doing this so that they can figure out what planes are going where down the road. If I had gotten my tickets for WDW on Delta 2 weeks ago, I would have spent only about $180 r/t. But, then the flights shot up to about $1027. Someone on the transportation board said that Delta is only selling refundable seats at the moment. That way...when they have to move everything around (more than they already do, if that's possible!!) they won't have so many people to worry about. I think you will see the prices come down in the future.

Hi, You may want to consider flying out of Providence on SWA?? They have NOT released dates yet for Dec.(they are only up to August 3rd.) But Cheapest flights for end of July are about $100.(one way) and I am waiting for them to come down- because pretty much the whole day is UNSOLD! It does require PATIENCE and WAITING to book SWA,but once you get those CHEAPER fares it is party: !! I have done BOTH non-stop and a stop in Baltimore(for about an hour) depending on what time of day I want to fly. Joan

I had the same thing with UAL last year. I had 3 free flights with FF miles, but we have a family of 4, so we needed to purchase 1 flight. It took several weeks of checking the FF area to get 3 flights with decent times and 0-1 layovers, but I finally found them. When I called to get the price for the 1 flight that I needed to purchase to match the FF flights I was told the price of that flight would be $1231!!!!! I told the guy he was out of his mind if he thought I was going to pay that much and he actually got snippy with me! Go figure, my family could have purchased 8 round trip tickets on SWA for the same price as that one. I gave up and checked a month later. I was able to get the 3 free flights and only had to pay $260 for the other flight.

We are traveling the same week as you (12/3 - 12/9) and leaving from Connecticut. I've been checking the Delta website everyday and prices are outrageous! Southwest is always an option but they don't put their schedule out for another four months. My travel agent said the prices have something to do with Delta getting rid of the Song planes??? I really don't want to take a connecting flight. A 3 hour flight turns into 6 hours, yuck!

I believe the reason is that Delta is only going to sell non stop flight as refundable flight in light of their current situation. That's why the tickets are so high.

But I may be wrong!

I looked into Delta from Hartford for April 14th...the roundtrip was $650 per person.....

I checked on Expedia ( any other site is probably as good, Travelocity, Orbitz, AAA, etc. ), and found packages with air ( Same exact Direct flights ) /hotel/and car starting about $500 person TOTAL !!!!! ... It was cheaper to get the Hotel and Car included..

The $500 hotel seemed ok but we went with a $650 package...

I imagine these Travel agencies have bought a bunch of tickets to include in packages.....To be honest.. I don't care how they get them cheaper...

I was intriguiged..SO i just did a search on a package from BOS to MCO 12/3 to 12/10 ( 2 adults 2 kids ) Not sure how many on the trip but...There are packages with Direct flights arrive MCO 5:30pm, land in BOS 7pm )..starting at $367 with air, hotel, and car....

hey,

found an airline in Portsmouth NH - used to take PAN AM to Sanford from here now they have Allegiant Air

reasonable for the times I would be going but would have to rearrange my dates alittle.

I believe that is "Pop Warner" football & cheerleader week at WDW. I wouldn't be surprised if blocks of airline tickets have been set aside or reserved for this event.

We are also flying to WDW in Dec for our wedding. As of right now, the $$ has jumped from around 199 rt to 466 rt, and there are only 2 seats sold. Let's hope that the prices go back down a little....

If the airline thinks it is going to be a high demand time it may bump the fares up (more correctly allocate only a very few cheap seats) even if blocks of tickets have not yet been set aside.

I bought Reno to MCO with a stop in Atlanta for 12/25/06-1/9/07 about a month ago for $310 ea. I checked them yesterday and they went up to $339. I was too impatient to wait for SW and last year on SW we had to make 2 stops, one of those included a plane change. It made for a very long day. We paid about $275 on SW last year so figured the one stop was ok, you can't go much of anywhere from here direct. Holiday time can be very expensive in the airline industry. I am happy to be locked in, now if WDW would release their 07 rates I would be really happy.

I agree with the 'crazy' Delta prices. We are actually looking into going to Disney Land the end of August with 2 of our grandchildren-- we have vouchers on Delta - so are hoping to use them. Anyway, a few weeks ago the price from MSP into LAX was $343, I didn't book it because I thought I could come up with something cheaper --- WRONG -- the price jumped up to $639. YIKES. Other airlines are cheaper, but like I said, we want to use the Delta vouchers. I have checked other airports in the LA area --- Burbank is running around $340, wondering if we should jump on that??
I also checked into MCO & that was in the mid $300 range. Sure hope that they get things straightened out!!!!!!

In all fairness, the reservationist with whom you spoke is NOT the person who sets the ticket price. While I'm sure you weren't snippy with him, look at it from his end - he's taking the brunt of the anger from potential passengers upset at something over which he has no control.

The OP is traveling in December; Jet Blue's fares only exist through September 6 at this point.

To be fair, telling a reservations agent that he's "out of his mind" IS being a bit snippy, eh?

Seems if you search Delta for 1 way the outbound is wayyyyyy cheaper then coming home. I just booked Delta from LGA to MCO and got it for $87, coming home it was around $300 so I booked AA for the same $87 for the flight home.
