OT - computer advice, please

This morning my computer lost its color- the hd is fine and if i turn my desk lamp on to the screen, i can see everything dimly - but it is dark otherwise. Any suggestions other than repairing it, which i will do next week. Might it be a problem with wires? Last night it did flicker a few times but stayed on. It is a 17 inch Sony Vaio - 5 yrs old.
Thank heavens for little laptops, or i would really be going through withdrawal! Thanks. Caroline

Ok - two big men have the 2 computers - so we'll see if they are able to work again. Thank heavens for daughters who have one i can use temporarily.

I am no expert but would start checking with buttons on the screen, perhaps they were fiddled with if the monitor was cleaned recently. That would be horrible if you had to get a new monitor but on the bright side the cost has come down on those since you got yours five years ago.

Lisa, actually it is a 17 inch laptop on its docking station. I'm wondering if any wiring came loose but being no expert, will not really fool with it too much. No one uses it but me.

Check if its firmly in the docking station. Or if any buttons have accidentally been pressed. Otherwise - get a little man in

If you take the laptop out of the docking station - does the screen on the lap top look dim, the same as the seperate monitor did? If so, it could be the 'card' in the laptop. I agree with Mazda, though - get a 'little man' in. lol.
