SEATTLE, WA (WTOL) -- A Seattle company has announced a new policy most employees would love -- unlimited paid vacation.

Social Strata, a company that runs social networking, announced this week it has done away with its jury, funeral, maternity or any other type of leave.

Instead, the company is offering unlimited paid vacation time for full-time employees.

"We have grown ups in this office. We have people who work really hard, really passionately all the time and why not give them the opportunity to schedule their lives the way that they need to," said Social Strata President Rosemary O'Neill.

When O'Neill first announced the policy her employees thought it was a joke, but now that they know it's not, they're thrilled.

They do not have any job openings at this time.

Great idea. I think the company will find they have some employees will take more time than before but then some employees will take less time. If it's a small company and the employees like their job they won't take advantage of the situation.:cool1:

It's a great way to sort out the wheat from the chaff, IMHO. People who are really committed to their jobs will use it responsibly, people who don't will not and will probably end up without a job.

Oh boy would I love that! My husband is a union carpenter and they offer him absolutely NO time off. No vacation, no sick days, no paid holidays, nothing. I'd just be happy for him to have regular paid vacation like everyone else.

Wow. Those are some lucky, lucky employees. I could only dream.

I've always believed that if companies were more flexible, they would have happier workers who were therefore more productive. However it doesn't seem like many agree with that idea.

I think it sounds like a great idea. How many times do you burn thru your PTO / vacation time just for doctor appointments and stuff like that, just to be left with out enough time to take a proper vacation. Also, there are times of the year that you are not as busy as other times and you are then looking for work to do to justify your time spent in the office. It could back fire, and I don't think it would work for large companies, but it could really work well for a small one.

Yeah, Walt Disney agreed with that philosophy, and it worked great until greedy Eisner screwed it all up.
