OT Chicago Hotels

it is very easy to get around in the downtown area of chicago- i've done both staying out and taking the L in and staying downtown. I like it better staying right downtown and have always gotten a good deal through priceline nae your price. The problem with staying out is that you have to walk around all day with anything you have bought- no quick trips back to your room to rest-wasn't too bad when I had a stroller but now-no way-those bags from amercain girl get heavy

I think your family will have a great time...some ideas....Millenium Park to see the "bean" and water fountain (free). Look into City Pass which bundles a lot of the area attractions too. You may to check into Jazzin' at the Shedd..its something that was done the last 2 summers and was very good & they stayed open later that day too. Check the free days for the Art Institute and Chicago Historical Society (near the zoo). If you have a Bank of America credit card there are some museums on their list too if your dates match. If I think of anything else I will let you know.

I echo the sentiments of staying downtown...I live IN Chicago (not the suburbs!) and we take our boys downtown to stay in a hotel for a couple nights once in awhile! Even if you have to pay a bit more for the hotel, it's SO much nicer than staying in the outskirts of the city or the suburbs, you save tons of time not having to wait for a train into the City, money on transportation and parking by being able to walk places, you don't have to deal with traffic...we like the Holiday Inn at the Merchandise Mart - you can hop on the el without even walking outside. While I am all for saving money, you want the best experience, and your time and convenience are worth something too.

Awesome thanks so much. Everybodies ideas are so awesome, I knew I could count of people of the dis to give me some great info! I haven't booked a hotel yet, I am hoping a travelzoo will come out with a half decent rate before we go! We have sometime, but I am such a planner!
Working on our July 1st (canada day) in Sault ste marie, then heading to Traverse City state park for the cherry festival, and July 4 fesitvities! I think we should become honourary americans!
thanks again!

If you get a room downtown...be careful. When we go there we have to pay almost $50 a night to park our car.
