and I totally agree about the food! ugh. We tend to do more snacking (pretzels or pack our own) in the park and plan our big meals outside if we can. Although the saltwater taffy is pretty darn good.

Is it worth the drive,I've driven from South Florida to Cedar Point on 3 separate trips.It wasn't my only destination on the trips,I also did other major parks and cities on the trips but for someone who loves coasters like me,Cedar Point was one of the highlights.

I live just north of Indianapolis. CP was definitely worth the drive. DH and I love roller coasters. Just watch the storms that blow in quick off the lake.

Wanted to add that the lines to the coasters are LONG and no fastpasses BUT that said, for a hefty price ($400 per person) you can get the VIP package which cuts you to the front of every line and you have your own "tour guide" for the day. I think there is a min. amount of people per party as well as a max. Have fun

My family loves this place. I go to watch the children while they ride the coasters. I agree that if you do not like coasters it is not the place for you. We stay at Kalahari and it is also great. Put-In Bay is a lot of fun for the adults too. We try to go mid week when Kalahari is cheaper. I look on their site for the Tuesday beat the clock deal and then plan the rest of the trip around those dates.

I used Live in Cleveland and had season passes to Cedar Point. It really is the best Amusement Park (Not Theme Park- that is Disney hands down.) You can easily fill two days but what I suggest is going to the Cedar Point website and pull up Packages. There is a great one for two adults staying at Breakers Express. You get two nights in the hotel, two starlight tickets (good after 4pm) and two full day tickets, also breakfast vouchers, free parking, and early entree. It really is the best way to do it.

Like at Disney if your stomach can take it get up bright and early and hit the big rides first (Millenium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Power Tower- In that order) Then keep heading towards the back of the park. Do the back before it gets busy (they sometimes even let you stay on a few go rounds and then head to the front. Now if it is wall to wall people catch some shows and eat something, even head back for a swim, then come back at 5 and do the front half (it will thin considerably).

Can you tell I love me some Cedar Point?

My DS is at Cedar Point at this very moment!

We love it and to restate what everyone else has said, it is not WDW.
It is an amusement park, not a "theme park".
The lines get long and the food and very expensive.
Definately agree with bringing your own and picnicing or going right outside the park for a break on the water. Our favorite is Famous Dave's BBQ, I hope it is still open for this year!

The rides are awesome, especially the roller coasters, it is a really fun weekend!
A great trip IMO~!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE cedar point. I guess thats what I get for growing up in Ohio! My family loves roller coasters, but its not like Disney. But if you love roller coasters its worth going for sure!! Like other posters have said there are hotels close, some expensive. There is one called the Breakers Express, its just down the road, like a holdiay inn express I would say, we stayed one night in october for halloween (one of the best times to go I might add!!) They have some amazing rides like millenium and magnium, and the newest mavrick(amazing ride I waited 3 hours last fall and WELL worth the wait!!) If you love coaster well worth the trip so many rides but be prepared for long, hot lines(guess thats kind of like disney, but no themed lines, just metal bars haha) Have fun!!

Gemini is actually a tubular steel coaster with a wood frame. Ride row three on the red side for MAJOR airtime.

I know they have all the new coasters, but as far as I'm concerned, Magnum is the best. A true classic, and the last good coaster ever made by Arrow Dynamics.

Not trying to turn the Disboards into the Cedar Point Board but I was reading the other thread and we are going to Cedar Point in June (DS12 is a coaster nut) and had a few more questions for those who have been there.

1. We're spending one night at Castaway Bay (for the indoor water park). Anyone ever been there and if so, how was it?

2. DS 11 is not a coaster nut so DH and I will probably be switching off between boys. Is there enough non-coaster rides to keep DS 11 busy?

3. Is the park food really that bad? Can we merrily snack our way through the parks and be happy? Is there a nice selection of places to eat other than TGI Fridays off of park property?

4. Have heard a lot about Put In Bay being a huge party spot. It is family friendly at all - could we bring kids for the day and would there be stuff that we could do or would that just be a bad idea?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks

it rocks, for an indoor waterpark it is pretty cool, it would not compare to any out door water park, but it is very functional

yes, there is a large kiddie land, a bunch of snoopy themed stuff, the Woodstock coaster that she will love probably, there is a lot to keep kids occupied, though they are not always in the same areas of the park as the big coasters.

I'll agree the pizza is meh, but the fries are pretty good, and there are a couple decent burger joints, and a sit down place that the name escapes me, and there is a TGI Friday in Breakers that you can sneak out to though the back gate, and is it the sand dollar inn that has a nice sit down restaurant on the water out the back gate as well?

4. Have heard a lot about Put In Bay being a huge party spot. It is family friendly at all - could we bring kids for the day and would there be stuff that we could do or would that just be a bad idea?

Um, with little ones, put in bay would be neat to see during the day, there is tourist stuff, and some monuments... you would get more bang for your buck at CP though.

As far as burger joints, there is a Johnny Rockets, yum!

And rides for your DS, there are lots of adult non coaster rides. There are also kiddie rides but those might be too young for him? If you check their website you can get a nice list of all of the rides.

I have not eaten too much of the food at CP, but the last time I went (2 years ago) there was a french fry stand on the far side of the park that had great fries

With all these Cedar Point questions, maybe the DIS needs an "Other Theme Parks" forum, so as to avoid cluttering the other boards

Your roller coaster enthusiast is going to love it there. The indoor water parks are a good time too. They are big enough to have some fun and cool because it is all inside.
As for the rides for non coaster lovers there are a few and lots of midway games a few shows and a whole kiddie park too (but at 11 he may be outgrown for it.) Also you can always just go relax on the beach for a while.
Food is alright on par for park food, not like at Disney, but edible. We have Johnny Rocketts and TGIfriday's also if you go out to the marina there is a nice sit down place called the boathouse which is a nice change of pace from the park.
As for Put-in-Bay there is something there for people of all ages. I have grown up there every summer since I was little, and there are lots of historical sites to visit and a playground and state park, neat shops and fun food. Mostly we just put around on our golf carts (kids love it) and take a nice relaxing day of just hanging out. I have great family memories of that place. They also have a cave that you can tour and pan for gems there are lots of family things to do.

Never been there, sorry, can't comment on it

Plenty to keep him busy, there are a lot of smaller carnival-type rides that spin and loop, etc. One of my faves that is not a coaster is the Witches Wheel near the back of the park. You have no restraints whatsoever, you are just put in this little cage-like contraption, it goes upside down but the centripical force keeps you in your seat - so cool! Also there are some not-so-huge coasters for the less adventurous too, such as the Wildcat and even the old standby - Blue Streak!

Yeah the food isnt that good, and you pay quite a bit for it too. Back in the day we used to bring our own food in a cooler and eat at the picnic tables. I dont know if you can still bring in food or not. Our thing was we would eat our own food for lunch, and "splurge" on the cardboard pizza for dinner...

I know of a lot of people that have really loved the area. Personally, have never been there but have heard very good things!

Also on Gemini, watch your head, you could lose it! lol! At least that's what I always thought as a kid during that one sudden drop where the wood beam is all of a sudden there!

And I have to agree that Magnum is one of the best! I still have a my t-shirt - Magnum XL 2000 "Just Ride It!"
