I have a degree in Early child development and have worked in daycare centers for many years. (Currently working in a different field)
I do think the socialization a child gets with daycare is invaluable. They learn to follow instructions from people other than mom and dad. They create friendships. Learn problem and conflict solving skills. There are a lot of good reasons to NOT feel guilty about sending a child to daycare!
That being said, do expect your child to be sick the first two years, on and off. There are lots of little colds and viruses and their noses will always be running. But, when the child is old enough to go to elementary school, he or she will have a wonderful immunity system!
I prefer centers to home daycare. I know way too many horror stories that stem from home daycare and the number of people involved with a center can prevent a lot of these horror stories.
Good luck to you!!!
