Greetings Everyone: This is really off topic, but since the gang was talking about books on the FB2FB show, I thought I would share one I'm reading. In preparation for my trip next week to the Kennedy Space Center for the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo Missions, I'm reading Buzz Aldrin's biography "Magnificent Desolation". I'm finding it fascinating. The first few chapters suck you in with his first hand account of walking on the moon, but the book is shifting gears to discuss the aftereffects of that trip. Buzz Aldrin discusses how he goes from being on the top of the world to having no goal or duties, and how he was never prepared of the emotional aftereffects. He dropped into depression and alcoholism.

And that's as far as I've gotten. I'm really hoooked.

I love Nasa history!! My husband and I live and grew up in the area near Nasa. My MIL shared a housekeeper with the Aldrins. She used to tell MIL that she didn't believe he went to the moon-that it was nothing but trick photography.

Sounds like a good read. I had heard that he, and other astronauts sometimes had difficulty after space flights.

I read a preview of this book, sounds like it's a good read. I plan on getting it. I have his first book as I also have lots of Apollo astronaut books. I was growing up during the so called "moon race" and am still fascinated by it. Wish I could have been one of the moonwalkers, and I don't mean like Jacko...

Finished the book. I liked the first half better than the second, but Buzz Aldrin's ideas of space tourism are interesting.
