OT but wanted to share my happiness! On Service Dog List!!!!

good luck!!!

hope it works for you.

you know it will be hard work as well as fun right...

I have though about during this when Spicey dies - I have trained dogs before...but then to go through puppy training....

Anyway you are a better person than I. :cheer2: pirate: :cat: :fish:

you know there is no dog smilies on this site. I guess it has more cat and fish lovers than dogs????? :scared1:

I just attended a forum where our Colorado Canine Partners of the Rockies trainers spoke to the group.
Most of the dogs used by them are goldens....but the trainer said that goldens only have 2 brain cells and what they try to do is to get them to synapse together! :rotfl2: (tho I've always thought my goldens were pretty smart!)
So these dogs are mostly for companions and picking up things and turning off light switches and aren't seeing eye dogs or deaf-aid dogs.

Since I've had goldens for the last 25 years, I offered to take care of the little pups (7 weeks to about 15 months). You socialize them, and give basic training before they go on to be REAL service doggies. I know my golden would love the company, and I think I could give up a pooch to the program if I got another puppy to work with!

Anyway, I know how long the wait is for a dog here...so I am wishing you much pixie dust that you'll have one soon!

All my best!

Allison,

The last thing in the world I wanted was for someone to feel sorry for you.

Anyone who has the spunk and get-up-and-go as you do and to have the wonderful attitude you display on this board is not to be pitied but admired!

You have the unique ability to be an inspiration to all who have a disability and to live a full life in spite of it. That alone is a gift to share with others.

Hi,

That's very cool that you raise puppies for another organization like the one I am going through. They sound about the same. Ours trains service dogs (1 on 1 like what I'll have), skilled companions (2 people + dog team, for kids under 18 mostly), hearing dogs, and facilty dogs (going into hospitals, special schools, group home & pysical therapists...) Anyway I'm glad that you do it & thanks for the luck!

Tom,

Thanks for saying this!! It means a lot!!!

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Disney produce (Not sure if that's the correct word) some of Johnny's films. I'm thinking "Pirates of the Caribbean"????

Tom

Congratulations, Allison! It's all downhill now, and hopefully the wait will be short! Good luck.

EDIT: P.S. GREAT news for one of our members is never off topic.

Great news!!! :cheer2: Does the agency you work with use a specific breed, or do they accept any breed? Here's some magic for a quick match for you! :wizard:
