Used a Bank1/Chase convenience check on 1/28; deposited to my account to pay daughter's college tuition. Was posted on my last statement, but yesterday got letter that said the cc check was "lost in transit coming to our bank for payment" and they were crediting my cc for the check amount plus fees until they could find the check (check is good until August). I called Bank1 and got NO help or information, customer service rep had never heard of this. I am so jaded by the whole cc system I am wondering if they did this just to make sure I did not get the 2.99% interest (it had to be posted to your account before 2/28 to qualify) or if I should rush to my bank, take out savings to cover the amount of the cc check or what? PLEASE, if anyone has any advice help.

So the check hit your cc stmt, so obviously they had the check at some point. So who lost it...your bank or bank one? Is the money still in your checking account? Regardless of who lost it, you could request that Bank One pay a "photocopy in lieu of original" if you get a copy of the processed check from your bank. You would need to contact the bank in which you deposited the check to see if they can get a copy for you.

I've worked in banking for 15+ years and this sounds weird. Although checks do get lost in the system, more than you would expect. However, based on the fact that the check hit your account to begin with, I don't understand why/how the check got lost. Obviously, they had it at some point or they wouldn't have charged your cc account .
