Ok my niece is 17. wears a 34 ddd bra. shes having issues with her back hurting.
mostly in the mid back area..
my question is .. can anyone make a good recommendation for a bra that will help with her stressed back.. and where to u find them for a good price

Anywhere that does bra fittings; there are some high-end places in New York; the Lady Grace chain; possibly Victoria's Secret (although their bras are more stylish than supportive, if they even come in your neice's range); Macy's has periodic bra sales, but I'm sure their lingerie salespeople do fittings year-round.

You might have her try some of the bigger gal stores like Lane Bryant and Catherines. They will fit you and are having really good sales right now.

If she is certain of her size, ordering online saves some money. I personally love the Le Mystere bras that Oprah recommended several years ago. They are the only brand I can wear comfortably, but they are pricey.

It is the full t-shirt bra. Bare necessities is an online retailer that sells them at a fair price. They always have a few in their clearance section.

Fredrick's also carries larger sizes with smaller band size. The plus size stores don't actually carry good bras for truly large breasted people. They do however have larger band sizes and go up to a DDD (which isn't really THAT unusual). LOL!

With a size 34 band, Fredrick's or a specialty shop will be her best bet.

Sports bras are great for just giving you a little breather when you are lounging around the house or for sleepovers at friends etc... A really great sports bra is Enell. Again, expensive, but great for the girls. At DDD she may not need that brand, but just a good compression type bra. That gives me a little support in my back as well.

Go to Nordstrom's. They have great bra fitters and a nice selection. After I got fitted, I headed over to Nordstrom Rack and stocked up for a lot less than the regular store.

I know you didn't ask this but....
I hope she is having her back issues documented with her Dr. so when she ready for a reduction her insurance will cover the surgery. A friend of mine had it done when we were in college and was so happy.

She should go to a place that *really* knows how to do bra fittings. Try a lingere shop that specializes in mastectomies. DD13 is a 34D and DD15 is a 32D I would have never figured out those sizes without help from an experienced fitter. DD13 wears Chantelle and DD15 wears Natori. Pay for one expensive bra and then shop for it on the internet. The Natori bras are $68, and I just purchased 2 on ebay for $19.50 each, plus shipping. The fitter said, especially because they are well endowed, you aren't just buying a piece of clothing, you're buying a piece of clothing that supports a gland. If you're not fitted properly, i.e. the underwire sits properly on the body, then you could have physical problems with that gland later on. I also agree with the PP about having a doctor document the pain/fatigue. My college roommate had her pain documented and insurance covered the reduction procedure.

I was a DDD, had reduction surgery about 5 years ago and have slowly grown back to a DD. By far the bra from Spanx has worked the best for me. I used to work at VS and got great discounts on bras, they just never fit me right.

Victoria's Secret will not have anything that will fit her. I went looking recently and found the brand Ambrielle at JC Penny. I also went to Lane Bryant but I am a weird size. The largest size at VS is too small for me and the smallest at LB is to big! I'm a 42C and the Ambrielle bra is so comfy! I got one with removable straps and it is the first strapless bra I have ever worn that actually stayed put and supported me. Ambrielle is the same as VS just a different brand name. They are made in the same factory and everything.

Nordstrom's--and your niece may want to try Wacoal bras. They have styles with underwire, and a few without underwire. When I purchase Wacoal bras at home, they run about $100 each, but if you shop carefully you can get them for about $66 each.

i did mention breast reduction.. her mom is making her an appointment so they can get the ball rolling.

i was looking at the bali's line. currently onsale at macy's for around 24.

i did mention she need to try on every bra cuz the different cuts and makes.
and to be fitted ever 6 months cuz shes still growing

when she lived with me.. i would buy her bras she was just a c cup then.. but i used to make her put the bra on. put her hands infront of her like shes diving into a pool.. if u flop out to big.. or the stuffed melon look. she mentioned to me she thought i was mean for it.. but today! she confessed she still buys bras like that

I am a DDD myself.

Avoid Victoria's Secret. They will not have her size.

I have heard great things about Nordstroms. I can't say that I have ever gone to them for a fitting because I have always known how to measure myself and I know my size. (I used to work at Lane Bryant and went through their training on sizing, plus I used to do my own research to make sure that I was wearing the right bra for me.)

It is important that she not try to skimp on a bra and that she goes for quality because a cheap bra will not provide the necessary support and will only cause her further back problems.

She should also be sized about every 6 months because as women, our bodies change all the time, especially at her age, and her size could change.


Many people don't realize the importance of a quality bra and bra fitting, but it really makes a difference in posture, back problems, and self confidence.

If there is an "Intimacy" store near her, she should go there for a fitting. The bras are very expensive, but by FAR the best I have ever owned. I bought only one at the store, then bought some more online after knowing what brand and size was correct. I still need a reduction, but a good bra is a HUGE help in back pain issues. Worth every penny. She needs a good bra and that will be expensive.

have her go to lane bryant they have great bras. i get measured there and then go get my bras at fashion bug(same parent company= same products but half the price) right now they are buy 2 get 2 free

Another vote for these!! I just got a sport yesterday and loveeee it!! Pricey... but worth it!!

I second JCP! I found the Lilyette brand a few years ago,and I *LOVE* it. They are pretty, but not 'flashy' which is fine with me! I don't need a zebra and hot pink push up with lace. I need a bra that keeps these gals up where they should be!!! I'm a 38DDD (gained weight, used to be 36DDD). I usually buy them when they are BoGo50% off, or when they have a good sale.
Oh, and VS is just a joke. 15 years ago, you could get a good bra there, but not anymore... Oh well. Back to JCP for me...

Victoria's Secret is owned by Limited Brands and Ambrielle is owned by JCPenney. They are not the same at all, and are two very different brands manufactured by different companies. Just wanted to clarify.
