OT: Boston

DW and I spent an anniversary night at the Seaport Hotel on the waterfront...it wasn't expensive at all ($129 for a harborview room with King bed, $99 for a non-harborview), very nice and comfortable, sort of business oriented. The only problem it wasn't really in a great "walking" location. It did have a nice sports bar nearby (Atlantic Beer Garden - watched the Patriots there) and a pricey but nice steak house (Morton's) right next door.

There is a Silver Line T stop right nearby, so you can hop that to South Station to get to the rest of the system (or walk from there).

I work right next to the Seaport hotel. It's a very nice hotel but agree that it's not the most convenient place to stay. In the spring/summer time it's great since you would need to walk or take the T every where. I would look at the Omni Parker House. You are close to everything here and it's a historic hotel which is nice.
One of my favorite places to eat is Parish Cafe. They have great sandwiches (it's sit down resturant) that chefs from across the city have developed.
Plus you can't go wrong with the North End. I have never had a bad meal at any place.
Finales also have the best Desserts.

I wish you luck in getting the Sox tickets. The virtual waiting room has become my friend. We had standing room tickets a couple of times that were $20. Not for some, but we still enjoyed the Fenway Part atmosphere. I love Fenway.

If all else fails maybe we can find something on Stub Hub. In Chicago we purchased the tickets from a reseller and yes, we paid more but it was worth it!

Thought I would update everyone. We have decided to stay at the Omni Parker House. It sounds like it is located in the area we are most interested in. My husband has finally gotten around to looking at some of the information and is VERY excited about the Freedom Trail. So I guess we will book the vacation sometime this week.

Thanks I will look at it today! I am holding off on booking the vacation until we hear about back from the accountant about our taxes. But I think if I can get the Red Sox tickets I will go ahead and grab them. My brother-in-laws family lives there. So if we decide we just can't afford the trip we can always give the tickets to them.

Just in case anyone is still interested in and reading this thread. I had a quick question.

We booked our hotel and airfare we will be there June 8-12. Staying at the Omni Parker House and we did get Sox tickets for Friday evening.

My brother-in-law is from Boston and his family still lives there. His little brother swears by Mother Anna's. I've been told he goes there so often they know him by name. Does anyone have any thoughts on this restaurant?

Also, I am really interested in good seafood. I saw the recommendation for Legal Sea Foods and B&G Oyster House. I think someone even mentioned Union Oyster House. I made us reservations for Union Oyster House for dinner the evening we arrive. The consignor at the hotel said we wouldn't like it, it's very touristy. Then he turned around and complained that 90% of the restaurants in the area are chains. Union Oyster House doesn't appear to be a chain. Any thoughts on Union Oyster House and any suggestions for good seafood that we shouldn't miss?

Also pizza? Any suggestions on to die for pizza? DH is a pizza addict. He said someone recommended Picco(?) over on Tremont Street.

I am partial to Atlantic Fish which is right across from the Prudential Center on Boyleston. Fenway is a 15 minute walk and we frequently go there for a pre game meal.

We live in western MA and DH tries to go to Union Oyster house every time we go to the city. Personally, I think the food is OK - classic new england seafood dishes - nothing that I would call gourmet or special. However, it is a boston establishment and I would strongy suggest trying to stop by, sit at the raw bar and order fresh shucked oysters or clams or some chowder and have a beer or two - if for no other reason then to soak in the atmosphere.

You should enjoy the Parker house, it's very centrally located. We had an excellent dinner there many years ago, but I think it's changed hands about 10 times since then.

Have a great time. Boston's a fun city.

The Union Oyster House is a historic landmark, and is the oldest operating restaurant in the U.S. Because of that it is going to cater to tourists in general, and I don't think I've ever heard of it being called fine dining or anything like that...but it IS unique and worth a stop.

I think they at one time had a second location on Route 1 in Peabody just up from Saugus - at least growing up I remember an Oyster House of some name there, but it close many years ago and it has been an ever-changing list of places since...and I think now it is a car dealership.

I'm not familiar with Mother Anna's at all, and I generally didn't look for pizza when in town

If you are still looking for Pizza in Boston?!?!? I would recommend going to Regina's Pizza in the North End @ 11 1/2 Thacher Street. It is a classic taste of the North End too..... (here is the link: http://www.pizzeriaregina.com) I know my Daughter and I will be having pizza there on June 11th before we head to Fenway Park for the Sox game. No matter what you do on your stay..... if it is checking out Faneuil Hall (here is the link: http://www.faneuilhallmarketplace.com/?q=shoppingdining) for a little shopping and food, I know you will have a FUN TIME!!!!!

Regina's Pizza in the North End is great. But do not confuse the Regina's Pizza that you'll see in mall food courts (including Faneuil Hall) with the real thing.

You're looking for good seafood at the low cost......WHY didn't you say so.... You should check out the "No Name" Restaurant located at 15 Fish Pier Street West,(between Northern Ave & Trilling Way),South Boston, MA 02210 It is Classic Boston/ New England Seafood at a low price. But they only take cash. I think even Pete would like their Fish Chowder. There is lots of Boston Waterfront History behind the place, too.

We will be sitting in the Center field bleachers, and be the fans with the DIS Unplugged T-shirt on..... WELL what ever you all do.... I hope you have a GREAT time while in Town!!!
