I am more of a lurker, but have had some great help from all of you (sometimes directly, sometimes by reading other threads), so I'm coming to you again! My DD5 is 42 pounds and 44 inches. We have Britax Regents in both my and my DH vehicles. However, we need something that we can use in other vehicles so that we aren't removing the Britax each time (it is quite heavy and bulky). I doubt we will use this "spare" booster more than 10 times. So, are there any suggestions out there?

I did try to do a search, but the feature seemed down. I also tried to look on carseat.org (I think that is the site reference on here frequently), but I couldn't find the forums on there.

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks so much!

Consumer Reports has rated the Graco TurboBooster high both for the backless and the one with the back. DD5 has been using her TurboBooster for about a year now, basically same reason you have -- Britax was too heavy to move around. She really likes it and it is a pink one so it's very 'girly'. When we travel we take the backless TurboBooster due to convenience, and we still feel confident that she is very safe.

I was going to get the Britax booster but they were taking so long to come out so I went with the ones rated best by consumer reports. I figured they know their stuff.

The backless one is about $25 at Wal-Mart and the one with the back is about $75. I prefer that DD has the one with the back on a daily basis, and it gives her a place for her head when she's tired.

Hope this helps.

Best Wishes!

I agree! I researched it's safety record too. The Graco Turbo boosters are wonderful. Of course my son just likes that it has two cup holders built in. :thumbsup2 They are very easy to move around. We just took ours to Disneyland. I took the back off (very easy) and we just checked it with our luggage. They are even easier to move back and forth between cars. I have even washed the cover several times, with great results. It makes them feel more grown-up too.:goodvibes

My mom has the Compass booster in her car. It's tall, has cupholders, folds up nicely, and got great safety ratings.

The cupholders were DS's draw as well! But I like the seat from the adult point of view, too. We have the backless version, which was about $20. It's easy to move, and the armrests are adjustable - which I think adds to the comfort.

love the turbo booster! My 7 1/2 YO is still in hers with the back on!

My newly 6 YO has been in hers almost 2 years.

AND when we had a rental car, I was able to get both of them, plus the boy's big convertible forward facing in the back seat of a Kia Sorrento!

I think I got mine at Target for around $50 each.

We love the Turbo Booster - ds uses his backless, dd uses the back - now my nephew also has the one with the back - they're all so easy to switch around, and they were super easy to take to Disney last year for the rental car!

We also use a Regent & Marathon for every day use but purchased the Compass Booster for travel and maneuvering and have been happy with it.

We also use Regents/Marathons in our main cars, and have been very happy with both the Britax Parkway and the Graco TurboBooster for travel and riding with others. I would give the nod to the TurboBooster because DS likes it better, and it breaks apart so easily for travel - I line a big rolling duffel with the pieces and pack my clothes right on top!

Thank you all SO very much. I think I will go take a look at the TurboBooster and the Compass.

Thanks for helping make another mom's life a little easier!

The Britax Parkway has been discontinued so you can find it discounted at a ton of stores online. It is a seat that fits smaller (close to 40 lb) kids really well. It has true side impact protection, no arm rests which makes it easier to use, 2 cup holders. We have one that my dd uses on occassion and we love it. It fits her very well. You can find them for $70 right now. Great price.

We went with the Recaro booster for our DD. It's made by a company that makes seats for race cars and has a wonderful safety reputation.

Since you're obviously into safety, having those harnessed-to-high-weights Regents, I'll tell you to check out the new Graco Nautilus! Harnesses to 65 lbs, and with a back then without a back, goes to 100 lbs as a booster.

You can get different styles (all basically the same, but slight variations on grey, red, and black combos) at Babies R Us vs Walmart vs BurlingtonCoatFactory/BabyDepot. I actually got mine at Fred Meyer, a Kroger company. It's also on amazon, but watch out for the price variations as amazon itself isn't always the one selling, and if it's only a "seller" there who has them they tend to raise prices or have really high shipping.

Should be about $149 though.

If you are not interested in getting a 5pt albeebaby.com has the fisher price safe voyage high on sale right now for 29.99. I saw them under britax.

...I absolutely love mine...Bought it at Baby Depot in February (when it was brand new--I hope it's gotten easier to find!). It is easy to put together, large heavy duty cupholder is part of the seat (not a flimsy little snap on like some others), little cubby holes built into the seat (my DS 5 likes to hide action figures in these, LOL), and also, my DS can do the buckles up himself. Oh, and the buckles also don't get all twisted up like on his old car seat.

My DS is tiny (42.5 inches, 38 lbs) --so I think he'll be able to keep riding in this seat until he's old enough not to need one anymore. Yea!
