I have always used the regular throw away liter. I am thinking of trying the clump. Hopefully the transition will be OK for both me and kitty! Any brand better than another?

I tend to use Tidy Cats crystal blend for multiple cats. Don't really know the difference betweem the multiple and regular. I really like it alot. It clumps great and really controls smells.
But, in my opinion I think the best out there is Sams brand clumping. That stuff is great! I don't buy it on a regular basis because I just don't get there often enough. Plus if I'm not with my DH I can't lift the tub! LOL It's like 40 pounds.

I used to buy Fresh Step and the dust was so bad that my poor kitty developed allergies and would sneeze for hours after exiting his litter box. I switched to Arm & Hammer because it advertises low/no dust and it is much better, IMO. The clumping is about the same in all clumping litters, IMO. I've tried them all - even the flushable wheat (gross & sticks to toilet), the natural corn (stinks like crazy and even my cat hated it), and just about every brand of litter out there. I'd stay away from the cheaper non-clumping clay litters just because it is impossible to keep the litter clean and healthy for cats. Arm & Hammer "Super Scoop" works well, low to no dust and very little added perfume scent (I don't smell like the litter after scooping it like I did with Fresh Step and/or Scoop Away brands). The Arm & Hammer "multi cat" formula is wayyy too perfum-ee and causes my cat to sneeze - so we don't buy that "flavor".

Forgot to mention the crystal litters - they are gross. They absorb urine and the poop sets on top. I'm only referring to the 100% crystal brands - not the brands that mix crystals with clay.

Good luck!

I have 3 cats in a 900sqft apartment. We use the Tidy Cats Multiple cat. It works very well for both clumping and odor control, with daily scooping. :thumbsup2

We use the Target brand ($3.50 for 14lbs) and I haven't noticed it's any better or worse than the more expensive brands.

There is one pricey brand I tried once (I think it was Fresh Step) that had so much dust I couldn't even stand to be near it. I can't imagine how my poor kitties felt using it!!!

Another Tidy Cat vote. Clumps really well. Keeps odors down too.

I'll have to try A&H. I use Fresh Step and have noticed that my baby is congested most of the time. I never gave a thought that the dust of the litter
might be causing it.

Thanks for the info.

Fresh Step does clump nicely and we don't have any ordors, we do clean the littler box several times a day.

You are welcome! Hopefully, a litter change will help your kitty;) Just be careful and do NOT buy the "multiple cat formula" of A&H because it has a really heavy perfume smell. The blander, the better for my little sneezer;) Switching from Fresh Step has helped my kitty's allergies tremendously!

This is a silly question but I just have to ask. I have 3 cats and have always used traditional "throw away"litter. I dump it totally and fill with fresh litter every 2-3 days. I go through a lot of litter but don't want any smell in my house.

I have never used clumping litter because I don't know what you do to it after you scoop it. Do you throw it in your waste basket? How is that any better than having a smelly litter box? I don't have an outside garbage can-I live in a 3rd floor apartment. I can't imagine flushing it even if it was the flushable kind. I would be too worried about the plumbing.

I just tried the Target brand and I'm not as happy with it. It doesn't clump as "tight" as the other, more expensive brands, which means more waste left in the litterbox and more odor.

Karalea, I live in an apartment also, and what I do is keep the plastic bags you bring home groceries in, put the waste in there and then tie it up tight before putting it in the trash. My trash can has a lid, which would help with odor, but if you tie it up the odor really isn't an issue. I just converted a friend to clumping -- she had been using normal clay litter for years -- and the difference in odor is AMAZING. There's hardly any smell now. I remove the clumps in the am and pm.

We store the litter bags in a diaper genie, then throw them ut.

We use Tidy Cats Scoop in the blue bucket

They have blue, red and green buckets and the blue is about 3-4 dollars cheaper per pail. I've tried all three and I think they control smell the same. We use the empty bucket for the scooped poop and it's pretty much full when we throw it away and then we use the next empty bucket. We tried the fresh step one once, but like someone else said it's really dusty.

I use Walmart's Special Kitty scoopable. I think it works well. I tried BJ's brand once but it didn't control odors as well, in my opinion.

I used to use clumping litter, but I couldn't stand the dust or having to scoop it every day. Now I use Feline Pine. It's little pellets, and when it get wet, it turns to sawdust. You only have to scoop out the "solids", and just dump the sawdust and put in fresh pellets after all the pellets have disintegrated. There is no dust at all and it controls odors better than anything else I have ever used. It's very reasonably priced compared to clumping litter too. A small bag at Meijer that's supposed to last 4 weeks (for 1 cat) is 3.99. We have 2 cats, and I recently found a larger bag at Kroger, I think it's 20 pounds, for 9.99. That one would probably last us about 2 months.

We have 2 kittens and we use Arm & Hammer no scent. We have never used anything else. We used the scented kind but didn't like the smell. We like it.

We also have a kitty pail, which is like a diaper genie for cats. Also all we do to empty the clumps is roll the litter box on its side and the litter seperates the litter, the roll is back and the litter goes back in the big part and the clumps go in a pull out compartment. It is so easy, and no more scooping.

Started with the cheapo kind-- I think it was scoopaway, it worked ok but the clumps crumbled too quickly.

I've used Fresh Step for awhile, got it for almost free with a special coupon offer.
The smaller packages seemed ok, then I bought a big tub of it.. very strong perfume scent. My cat smelled like her kitty litter, reminded me of too strong softener laundry smell- ewww!
I have to sweep around the box daily, even with a carpet square under the box to prevent tracking.

Tried non clumping, Poly looks at me oddly "What are you trying to pull now lady?" ... She will use it but sniffs at the box before using, and delicately steps out.

Going to try Tidy Cats multi cat on the next litter change. (Found another coupon deal LOL)

Poly insists that litter must be very DEEP in her box, she will kick out her poops if she feels she can't cover them enough. Shudder.. poop on the floor brings back the days of my youngest DS potty training-- ewww!

I use cat's pride multiple cat formula. I have very picky cats (imagine that ha!) that would simply not use a litter they didn't like the smell of. They won't even use the normal cat's pride, it has to be multi.

I use scoop away and i have siftable liners in the cat box. i just lift a liner every couple of days and it sifts back into the cat box. I use very little kitty litter because it all sifts back into the box and i throw away the solids in the liner in the outside trash can. Very simple.
