We have a 8th grade babysitter that occasionally walks our kids home from school and stays at our house for 30-90 minutes after that. Her brother (about 5th grade) comes with her, a little begrudgingly I believe. DH & I are totally fine with him coming, he's a good kid.

But, our dilemna, we only pay his sister. We don't know if their parents make them share, but should we pay him as well, or give him some small token? It had been twice a week for 3 weeks, and now it will be about twice a month. (Maybe more frequently in the future)

They live too far I think for the parents to let the brother walk home alone, or else I am sure he would!

If sister is who you hired then sister is who you pay. If parents make them share then thats unfair and I really cant see where that is your problem. I can see where the parents may think he is a little too young to be home alone if they work and want him to be with sister, but as I said pay who you hired IMO.

No way would I pay the brother. He was not the one hired to do the job. You did not hire a 5th grade boy to babysit...but hired an 8th grade girl. It was not your decision to have him come over with the sister. The parents obviously agreed with this whole situation, or would not have allowed the 8th grader to babysit for you in the first place.

I would only pay the girl. Actually the parents should be paying the sister for watching her brother AND they should be glad YOU allow him to come with his sister. I'm surprised the make him come I think 5th grade is old enough to walk home by himself for heaven's sake. Not everyone would be ok with him tagging along.

I might not pay him, but if, say, you give his sister a small token of thanks (for the holidays, her birthday, whatever) it would be reasonable to give him the same sorts of things on similar events.
