OT: Assuming you own a mini van, what kind?

2007 Toyota Sienna XLE and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check consumer reports for the reviews on AWD...we were leaning AWD and then saw tons of bad reviews and decided on the 2wd XLE. We have cloth seats, two sliding doors, auto back hatch, and tons of other options. I drove the honda (I was set on the honda and told my dh to buy it but he insisted I drive both) and honestly I felt like I was driving a station wagon. I just really felt more comfortable in the Sienna which is funny because I didn't even want to look at it just wanted the honda.
Good luck whatever you decide!

We have an 06 Sienna.. We HAD an 07 Matrix M-Theory.. Then we found out we were having twins. A week later my husband INSISTED that we trade in the Matrix for the van. Im still not over it!:lmao: But it is a nice van. We have one slider, and my three yo loves it. She can get in and out on her own. It is the 8 passenger, and fits the gang load of car seats that we need it to.

We just bought our 2nd minivan a few months ago. We went with the Dodge Grand Caravan and love it. We live on the IA / IL border and it gets around wonderfully in the snow! Our first mini van was a Chevy Venture and it didn't get around in the snow as well as our Dodge - it seems the Dodge just plows through everything that's in our way.

We got a pretty good deal - dual sliding doors, heated cloth seats (which is new - I don't like the hot and cold of leather so this is perfect) - dual DVD player and we have Sirius satellite TV with Cartoon Network, Nick and Disney. If you have younger children, the Satellite TV only shows decent cartoons during the morning -after lunch time, it turns into the more "not-so-decent" cartoons that I won't allow my kids to watch. We also love the 2nd row windows in this - that's why I wanted to go with an '08...anything older than that doesn't have the 2nd row windows.

Also my BF just switched from a Buick Rendezvous to a Chrysler T&C (same make-up as the Dodge GC) and she loves it. My husband also loves the "boxier" look of the Dodge and Chrysler's - he says it doesn't look as "mini-vannish" !

I have a 2008 Honda Odyssey Touring and don't know what I'd do without the sliding doors! I was the one who was *NEVER* going to drive a minivan....always had SUV's (Hummer, Tahoe, etc...) then I test drove the van....and I will NEVER go back to not having one! It's the most convenient car ever!!!! Trust me, not having to put down things to get the doors (and rear hatch) open is the best.

The Pacifica has terrible gas mileage, at least based on reviews I read online today. Crap.

Our Matrix has all-seasons on it, I think. Hmmm......I can't remember. I'll have to ask DH b/c he's the one that bought them. It originally had low-pros on it and HAHAHAHA, that was fun. Our Matrix is the XRS version so it sits kinda low and is really sporty. I LOVE that car. Maybe I'll just keep it instead. It's paid off. LOL

We have a Toyota Sienna. I think the Toyota's and Honda's are the best. I would not waste your money on any American owned car company. They still haven't learned their lessons from the 70's. Anyhoo, Toyota's and Honda's are far superior in build, astetics and durability. THey are also made in America, by Americans instead of in Mexico or Canada. Thanks NAFTA. Stick with quality and you can't go wrong.

Definitely look into the Ford - Old is Freestyle new is Taurus X???. Better mileage than the Chrysler.

But Anything AWD or 4WD is going to get crappy, crappy mileage when compared to FWD.

BTW if the only reason you're really looking to change is the snow thing then I would just get a set of extra rims and put snow tires on them so you can swap them out with your other tires in the winter. Having an extra set of Rims with Snow tires on them would definitely be the cheaper option in the long run, especially since your car is paid off and you love it. Think about it this way an extra set of after market rims and snow tires will probably cost about the same as the taxes and registration costs on a new car.

If on the other hand you are also looking to change cars because you need something bigger than a mini-van or AWD cross over is the way to go.:goodvibes

Toyota Sienna, and I love it!

We were originally looking at the Odyssey, but the Honda dealer couldn't be bothered to even unlock the doors for us, said the 2 (used) ones he had both had dead batteries and went back inside.

Weird, 2 of the 3 used Odysseys I went to look at first had dead batteries too! When our Ford Windstar's transmission started going at 94K miles, we were planning to replace it with used Honda. I test drove the used Honda & also went to Toyota & test drove the Sienna. We were able to get a brand new 06 Sienna (in Dec 06) & 0% financing for just $4k more than the used Honda with 15k miles. We hadn't planned on brand new but I LOVE it.

We also have 3 kids & love the 8 passenger. My youngest is 6 & we have the auto slider on the passenger side only. The trunk space is great, we can easily sit 3 adults in the middle row & the windows in that row also open. The fold down rear row has been really nice too. We knew we'd be taking long road trips & will run it til it dies so this has been a great van for us.

I have to admit, as much as I hate driving a mini-van, I do love my Sienna.

Buy new - I have loved ones who work for Toyota and need the support!:thumbsup2

I traded in my '05 Sienna FWD for a Highlander last winter. I admit I never quite got over the stigma of driving a minivan but the kicker was the snow/ice. We have a pretty steep hill and I had a hard time getting up the hill during a storm. My neighbor has a Sienna with studded tires and seems to do okay. I wasnt a fan of studded tires and the snow tires didnt seem to cut it for us. I did enjoy the Sienna while I had it and did hate to give up the sliding door and power hatch. However I love the Highlander. Its much better in the snow and a lot more roomy than I ever imagined. Good luck with your decision - you cant go wrong with a Toyota!

Look around for whichever brand you choose. We just leased our 3rd Odyssey. I love my vans. The sliding doors are priceless IMHO. My DH got me my first one for mother's day when I was pregnant with DS #2. It was him giving in to being "uncool". I know our local dealer still has a bunch. The guy we work with recently sent an e-mail asking us to send anyone we know looking to buy cars to him.

Just take your time and go drive different versions. I found that some brands had seats that I found to be absolutely miserable.

We have a 2007 Honda Odyssey and LOVE IT!!! This is the 2nd one we've leased and we'll do it again when this lease is up. It's a comfy drive and does really well through the snow. There's tons of storage room, the DVD player is invaluable and I couldn't do without my auto sliding doors. :thumbsup2

I'm pseudo in the market. I need to get past the "uncool" factor. :lmao:

I currently drive a Toyota Matrix that sucks in the snow. I'm heavily leaning towards a Toyota Sienna b/c it has AWD as an option. I'll only buy used b/c I think new cars are a big fat ripoff. I found a decent deal but still not sure.

And do you think power sliding doors are worth $3K more? I have found two Siennas and I don't think the one with that's cheaper has the sliders.

So tell me about your mini van!

I owned two Siennas and loved them. The first one didn't have the auto doors but the second one did. I didn't have a preference either way. It was convienent and times and also a pain when the girls would fight over who got to push the button.

I have a Mazda 5 which is a true "mini" van. It has a 3rd row of seats but it only comfortably fits 2 smaller children or 1 older child/adult. It has sliding doors and pretty good gas mileage compared to other minivans. It's perfect for a family of 4.

Where you looking at the '08 version? Although I'll admit it's not the best gas mileage, the '08 version is much better than the previous years.

I love my Sienna. We bought it new back in 06 and still love it. It's the XLE, FWD. Leather, both power doors and 2nd row captain-style chairs. It's great for when my parents come somewhere with us, then they get big comfy seats too, or when kids bring friends too.
I love the heated front seats. Dh bought a dvd player on ebay, the kind that has 2 video screens built into the front seat headrests. They were designed for a Toyota SUV but match our leather perfectly. You'd never know they weren't factory installed. We didn't want to cut into the ceiling or have a video screen that blocks the view from my rearview mirror.

I do love that both doors are power and that the rear seats fold flat. It's so easy you can do it 1 handed. At the time, in the Honda you had to remove each of 3 headrests before folding then find a place to strore them. pita. Not sure I'd pay an extra $3K for the doors though. This one just happened to have everything I wanted at a reasonable price.
We also looked at the Fords but the interior felt really cheesy, plastic-like. Everything was cheapo material. Even the arm rests were molded plastic vs. Toyota's padded, leather covered armrests, just an example. Overall the Toyota felt like better quality and I could even have gotten a great deal for being a returning Ford customer.

We traded in a 96 Taurus for this which was still a good car, low mileage but couldn't bring friends anywhere, only room for 1 more. More stressful was that on windy days, I'd worry when the kids would lose control opening their door and whack the car next to us in parking lots. It's so annoying when people ding my doors and expect my kids to not do the same to others. We also really wanted a dvd player and my old Taurus had only 1 good front seat cup holder and my kids were way past the sippy cup stage.

Dh has a 4x4 p/u truck so I wasn't worried about driving in snow.

I plan to keep this til it dies. I know we won't outgrow it and it doesn't make me want a baby at all, not even the slightest bit.
I got over the drop in my cool factor a long time ago. Ds#1 is 12 and I gave up my Toyota Supra when I was pregnant with him. Now I think about what's practical.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Nissan Quest. It doesn't even have the minivan look. I get tons of compliments on it.

My husband hates the turning radius however. He can't park it. I guess I'm just used to it.

I is definitely a very unique looking van. If you haven't checked one out you definitely should!

This is us too! I LOVE my Quest (there's a few things I would change, but I do have a 2006, so perhaps they did change them already?). I would love a 60/40 spilt to the rear seat, so that I could get a little extra storage. But I LOVE it.

It's is big - and my Dh can't park it either. I am used to it and it doesn't bother me.
